While we're on the subject of accidents, repairs and guessing, my granddaughter Lisa is staying with us us for a few days and yesterday she broke her glasses playing dodge-ball.

I effected a temporary repair until she goes home. (her friends think it's a fashion statement, now they all want one)

Can you guess exactly what I used to mend them?

Is it some heat shrink tubing?

Have you ever used (or heard of) Sugru (maybe it's Sugru in the picture)?

It's quite interesting. I had some but I didn't think it quite lived up to it's promise. The pitch is that it's a bit like play-doh, you form it into shapes then it dries out and becomes like moulded rubber. I found the rubber wasn't rubbery enough and the end result was too powdery.

No, it isn't Sugru Skip, or heat shrink tubing. I've never heard of it until now, but I will deffo try it.

I've been experimenting a bit with Gorrilla Glue. What amazing stuff that is.

Wow! Surprisingly difficult to tell what makes the car is.

Was it once an Austin Cambridge / A60?

BTW- Is that Brampton bomber track?

atdc's car reminds me of this superb Peugeot advert

Why is it good? What makes it better than other glues?

Well just speaking from experience, it seems to work on anything, it sets quickly but not instantly and it expands to fill awkward shapes.

Sugru is amazing stuff - don't think I have a cupboard or a wall that doesn't have a Sugru hook on/in it.
www.sugru.com

Think Jen or Snoopy mentioned it on here some years ago, and I have been addicted ever since.

Great!

No doubt something will break soon and I'll be able to try it.

To tell the truth Ade I just cut the flex off broken electrical stuff before I fling them, I got that bit from my big box of electrical bits, I have no real idea what it's from.

I do have an electric lawnmower though. It's a sad sad story.

I have loads of grass to cut at my place but I don't bother doing it to lawn standard. As long as it doesn't become a jungle it's fine.

However...

Mrs Red likes the bit in front of the chalet kept lawny fied, so I have a little mower just for that.

For donkeys years, I used an ancient 2 stroke that I bought off the car boot for £3.  Like most 2 strokes it was noisy and smelly but it ran like a watch and never failed to start. I loved it dearly.

Then, one day the return spring for the starter pull cord snapped and I couldn't get a replacement, so I removed the starter rope and pulley and tapped a 9/16 bolt directly into the end of the crank, then I started it racing car fashion with a socket on an electric drill.

It worked OK for a while but eventually the threads on the bolt stripped and I had to consign her to the scrap bin.

That same week, B&Q had little electric mowers on sale at £25 which was half price. (God knows how they make them for that) Anyway, I bought one and it's been fine.

It has no soul though, unlike my little 2 stroke.

RIP.

Strangely enough, I went to have a look at an old ride on mower today.

I used to have a ride on a few years ago. It was a cantankerous old bastard and I had to mend it every time I used it, but the point is, I could mend it.

Foolishly, I swapped it for a more modern, more shiny red one. That one only broke down now once, but I couldn't mend it at all.

What an idiot I am.

PS- If anyone has a ride on mower (preferably an old one) for sale, let me know before Monday.
