She looks like a real sweetheart Kev. I can't believe she's hit double figures already.

I'm sure you don't spoil her.....     much.

I've looked before but can't find a definitive answer. Does the term murmuration refer specifically to starlings or can it be used for other bird flocks?

Yes, hard to find a definitive answer, but the consensus seems to be that murmurating only applies to starlings.

If that is true, & I think, generally, it is, it's odd that the terms usually used are  "murmurating starlings", "murmuration of starlings", "starlings murmurating". If it only applies to starlings, then the word "starlings" should not need mentioning.

"I saw a murmuration yesterday" would suffice.

Apparently, goldfinches, which I believe you are very familiar with,  do it, too;

I can't post a link right now, but if you go to Wiki and search for "Swarm Behaviour", it suggests that:

Swarming applies to insects.

Flocking or murmuration to birds.

Herding to tetrapods.

Shoaling or schooling applies to fish.

Then again I know an old bloke who thinks that swarming refers to whiskey in your tea.
