Why thank you kind sir. Perhaps you might also be impressed by my automatic-gas-bottle-valve. When one bottle is empty, it switches to the full one, thereby saving Mrs Red from rupturing herself changing bottles while I'm in Vegas.

You're all heart.  I hope Mrs Red knows how lucky she is!

I hope to be playing the APAT pro-am at Luton, but the Circus £100 IS a great tourney and a great buffet, I'll be sorry to miss it. (Do you do doggy bags?)

TV advertising peeps, please don't broadcast your adverts at a louder volume than the programmes they interupt, because when you do it causes me to turn the volume down, and if I'm turning it down, I turn it right the way down, which kinda defeats your purpose.

The moral of this story? If you want to sell something to someone, don't piss them off first.

Lol at getting pissed off having to reach for the remote. And I can't imagine Red is the type of guy who lets the remote stray too far from home anyway. In fact if Red actually puts the remote down at all when watching tv I would be surprised. Remote readied like a cocked pistol throughout the evening much to the frustration of Mrs Red imo.

They do that because they assume people are out to the kitchen to get their cuppa or off to the loo during the ads.  They don't want you to miss out hearing them when you leave the room.  I hate it too, but that's why they do it.  Was taught that a long time ago in Broadcasting classes.

There you go you see. Red isn't the one out in the kitchen making a brew. Much to the frustration of Mrs Red.

Many TVs have a setting that restricts the volume increase for exactly this situation.

My Philips TV has such a setting...

Sorry Kin, I missed that. My lappy has a setting that filters out drivel.

It's against broadcasting rules - but the use compressed sound which gets around the rules to an extent. Complaints to the Advertising Standards Agency naming the programme channel & time are investigated and can result in Ofcom fines to the station.

No, I don't understand why compressed sound seems louder.

Quote
Sound levels in advertisements
Advertisements must not be excessively noisy or strident. The maximum subjective loudness of advertisements must be consistent and in line with the maximum loudness of programmes and junction material. Broadcasters must endeavour to minimise the annoyance that perceived imbalances could cause, with the aim that the audience need not adjust the volume of their television sets during programme breaks. For editorial reasons, however, commercial breaks sometimes occur during especially quiet parts of a programme, with the result that advertisements at normally acceptable levels seem loud in comparison.

OWLS EXTEND TAKEOVER TALKS
Posted 06/10/08 17:38EmailPrintSave

Sheffield Wednesday have entered into talks with four other interested parties about a possible takeover.

But Geoff Sheard, who heads a mystery Swiss-based consortium that first contacted the club nine months ago, has not yet been ruled out of the running by Owls fans' trust Wednesdayite.

Wednesdayite said in a statement: "At this time, the conditions of our acceptance of (the Sheard) bid remain unsatisfied in all respects and we have no further verification of the source, quantum and nature of funding than we had at the time of the member ballot on August 6.

"We remain in dialogue with Mr Sheard and have outlined our increasing concerns to him about the delay.

"We have also advised him that we have simultaneously begun to actively pursue other potential investor leads.

"This does not preclude Mr Sheard from completing a deal, but the most important thing is that the club attracts fresh investment from one source or another and we have to keep our options completely open.

"In this connection, we have instigated meetings with four interested parties last week although we would stress these are at a very early stage."

When Red starts something, he goes for it bigtime.

So the cash games are going well then , eh ?
