i agree that the format is strange.

That reminds me of in my opinion one of the strangest sports set ups. Formula one have a qualifying stage where the fastest drivers get to start at the front of the grid in the actual race, then next week the same drivers win the qualifying stage again and again start at the front of the grid. These drivers are in the best cars and will always win the qualifying stages and therfore always start near the front of the grid.

F1 is one of the most boring sports to watch, isnt it about time that the podium result every week had to start at the back in next weeks race to make it fairer and more interesting. I mean what is the piont of having the best ones start in front of the worst ones every single race, time for F1 handicapping?

ITV's new show "Beat the star"

The star (in this case boxer Amir Kahn) beats the member of the public thereby preventing him from winning the $50,000 prize.

When Amir "wins" he doesn't get the prize himself, he just prevents the contestant from winning it. A difficult victory to celebrate I would have thought.

Is it me, or does this format just seem wrong?

Should have had Audrey Harrison on instead.  Got to be more interesting than watching him fight.

F1 is one of the most boring sports

Best not to think of F1 as a sport.

You know that fashion where young men wear their jeans with the waist below the cheeks of their arse, and the crotch hanging somewhere between their knees?

Well every time I see someone like that, shuffling along, holding on to the front of their waistband, I have an almost overwhelming urge to sneak up behind them, yank their trousers down, and run away. (Lets face it, they couldn't run after you could they?)

Well I've just found out that people actually do it. What's more, there's a word for it. It's called "Pantsing"

Woo hoo! I'm not mad after all. Well,l I probably am, but wanting to pull blokes trousers down and run away doesn't necessarily prove it.

It's when you start pulling men's trousers down and then not running away - that's when we'll start worrying about you.

i agree that the format is strange. a joke and Khan should be ashamed at himself for even taking part in this

FYP

Amir Khan is involved with some charities - it seems like he has bad management if they haven't insisted that every time he stops the contestant that the money goes to one of the charities he supports.

he does do a lot of charity stuff but this thing is a joke..he's just a young boxer with talent at the moment..he hasn't proved himself on the big stae yet and I think it might be wise to focus on becoming a top class boxer first before taking part in shows like this, no?

But that would mean that the contestant had to try to stop the charities from winning...

If the show was evenly balanced between who won it (I don't know if it is, I don't watch rubbish like that) then you could expect half the episodes to give the money to the contestant and half the time to the charity. If it were a single charity then the greater good would still be served by the large sum of money they received from it - whilst the lesser good would still benefit from all the contestants who individually benefited.

But it sounds like an even better idea would be to have not done the show to start with and for Khan to just go on Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire instead and then go back to concentrating on boxing.

I Don't think I've explained myself very well.

In any show where they give money away, someone is going to benefit. I just couldn't really what motivation the "Star" would have to prevent the contestant from winning.

And if they changed it to the format that you suggest, for the contestant to win, the charity would have to lose out.

It's an ITV game show - there's been more thought about how it works on this thread than there will ever have been during the production process.

It sounds like a very clumsy version of a show on Channel 5 a few years ago called Win Beadle's Money, where the contestants played against Jeremy Beadle, whose fee for the show was the prize money. Anything the contestants won came out of Beadle's pocket.
