A Shallow quake is what happens when Dubai suffers a bad beat...

Shallow simply means the earthquake happens close to the surface (this one was 10km). That means the energy released is going to reach the surface in a much smaller area and so be more concentrated.

A deeper quake will have less of its energy reach the surface and so the effects will a) not be as bad and b) be felt over a wider area.

Disaster movies were big in the 70s.

I remember one in particular. Earthquake! An earth shattering experience.

Some wag with a ladder paid a visit to the local cinema during the wee small hours. The next day, the sigh read...

Fart quake An earth shattering experience.

I was easily amused back then.

Fiona Phillips says, "People often ask me which are the best ant-ageing products".

I bet they don't really. I think she's lying.

Why is gold and jewelery "Appraised" instead of valued?

Probably because 'appraised' suggests a personal opinion on the worth of the gold (ie the lowest price they think you'll accept), whereas 'valued' suggests a more absolute figure.

You're sharp today Andrew. I'm sure that's exactly right.

Crafty buggers.

While were at it, what does "Up to 50% off all sat-navs" mean?

AND.... (I hate this one) "All you have to do to win is answer this simple question"

No it's not. You have to answer the simple question, and then go into a draw along with thousands of other entries.

This is PC Robin Port, Britain's smallest policeman.

When asked about his performance, the Chief Constable said, "He's not much cop"

A recent scientific study found that women find different male faces attractive depending on where they are in their menstrual cycle.
For example, when a woman is ovulating she will prefer a man with rugged, masculine features. However when she is menstruating,
she prefers a man doused in petrol and set on fire, with scissors stuck in his eye and a cricket stump shoved up his backside.

Lol Tom,

I've been bleating over the past couple of days about this sort of thing. It started with News presenters and newspapers covering the recent hit on a villain in Glasgow:

"Police are looking for 3 masked men"

Oh really, you mean you actually believe these guys are still wearing their masks?

Idiots!!

Geo

edit:

One of my favourites:  " a man was injured today following an accident in the High Street"

serves him bloody well right for following an accident if you ask me.

Haha.

I went to a meeting last night, and the chairman said "You might recognise the three strangers among us"
