I'm aghast at that Tom.
I never knew.
I knew about the Jewish people, & you had mentioned that the Gypsies suffered similarly. But I never realised the extent of it.
And I don't understand, either.
Why?
But I don't suppose you do, either.
I'm so proud of you, for what you did yesterday.

Someone donated a whole bunch of Romani Gypsy photo's to special collections Leeds recently and I was looking through them. Some amazing pictures from 1910-1940 where they are burning dead peoples caravans etc..If i go in next week I will try scan a few, they have dates, places and detailed explanations of whats happening, really interesting items,

Tom I read my first book about Nazi atrcoties in the early 80's when I was a young factory worker. It was a very old copy (pre decimal as it cost 3/6) simply called Adolf Eichmann. Reading this I couldn't believe that human beings could commit such horrors to each other. I have since read numerous books on the subject and my hope is that the subject never gets put on the back burner and that generation after generation learns about the abomnibal atrocities carried out.
I have to admit though that although I knew the Gypsy comunity were percecuted I never knew it was to that extent. I'm shocked.
The most humbling thing happened to me a few years after I first read about te atrocities. I had left the factory and had joined the ranks of the self employed. I was in the home of a lovely elderly Polish family. The semi detatched was spotless, a little palace. We sat dow to discuss business when Mrs. Sharkiewcz leaned forward to pour some tea, and from under her sleeve was revealed the tattoed number she was given from the concentration camps. Even as a grown man it was all I could do to hold back the tears.
Well done Tom on your superb speech.

I always read but never comment here because I don’t think it is my place to do so.
Reading that sent a shiver down my spine. The actual thought of those poor people witnessing the horror is beyond my comprehension.
That was a great speech Tom and all I want to do now is leave the office and give my family a big hug.

Loads of people say that to me. A good friend of mine, (typoon13 on here) said to me last week,"I wanted to reply, but I didn't want to hijack your thread"
Feedback of any kind, replies, opinions, questions etc, are the life blood of my diary. So please don't hesitate.

Thanks Kev.
Kitty Hart-Moxon (The Holocaust survivor we spoke with) had both her own and her mothers tattoos removed. (3994 & 3993 respectively) She keeps them in a perspex case on the mantelpiece.

Tom
Now that was a reality check.
A great but sad read, i am sure that the majority of people like myself just didn't realise what really went on.
Well done.

Gripping stuff once again Tom and it still goes on to this day for many people.
Only by special people like yourself continually highlighting these atrocities will we ever have the chance to put an end to it all.
And I won't accept a reply saying you're nothing special, you are.

It's sad to think that it is still going on in quite a few places across the world. People being killed in their thousands because of where they were born.
We need reminding, lest we forget. Thanks Tom.

This is so true.
Last night, we did a roll call of the victims of genocide since the beginning of the 20th century. When I get a chance, I'll type it out on here.
The numbers are astounding, and they are rising as we speak.

“Then Mengele started killing the children. They ordered a lock-up night and no-one was allowed to go outside…
He took each child by the legs and hit them against a pillar
.”
Wow. Just wow. How could anybody actually do that. It's as though they were genuinely thought of as another species rather than another race.
What must it actually be like to take a child by the legs and swing it against a pillar to literally smash it to death?
Makes you wonder what must've been going through these people's minds to enable them to do these things.

Check out the Milgam experiments.

Turns out most of us will just do what we're told regardless. The "other variations" part of that wikipedia article is particularly sad. (a completely unethical experiment obv)
