According to research, every minute you spend walking adds, on average, two minutes to your life. I don't know if that's true, but what a great trade-off.

Can't really be true, otherwise you'd be able to walk forever.  On average.

Tom!

Not like you to listen to that sort of nonsense.

I'm quite sure that walking, or any physical exercise, can only be good for us. The suggestion that it adds x days to our life per mina, or whatever, however, must surely be pure conjecture.

Was the report or article authored by "expert" by any chance?

Gotta love the "Breaking News" on Sky Poker when they wheel in some bloke who has an understanding of the topic, & describe him as an "expert".

I was bought up to believe  - or at least, told to believe, but I never did - that if you don't eat green veg you'll die of pox at a early age, you MUST eat copious amounts of green veg to be healthy.

I can't be doing with all that codswallop, I really can't.

I DID, however, buy the "being optimistic/happy means you are less likely to be ill & more likely to live longer" thing you Posted yesterday.

Just shows, if it suits me, I'll believe 'owt. And if it don't, I won't.

Stubborn ftw.

There are studies based on empirical evidence that show an optimistic outlook can contribute towards living longer.  The opposite effect is often seen when a couple who have been together for years has one of the partners die, and the other partner sort of 'gives up' on life as they don't have anyone to share it with any more, and they too die soon after.

As for eating loads of green veg, there are illnesses and afflictions that are caused by a deficiency in certain minerals and vitamins (and sadly too many in the world still suffer from them), but eating beyond the level the body needs will either do nothing at all or can even cause harm in some cases.  The idea of 'superfoods' that help us live longer/be smarter/run faster/be stronger, etc., is marketing nonsense or the sort of bullshit constantly spewed up by the Daily Hate Mail.

Yes - far too much of that on Sky Poker.

Another nice score for junior me last night - we'll see how much of that he still haves after Cheltenham.

Owned by Andrew again. Anyway, my strap now describes me as "Analyst", (NOT "analist", as some arse described me) not "Expert". The OFCOM peeps insisted.

Still, you were once again shown how to do it by your baby Bro last night - a splendid bink, £2,300 was it? Congrats to him. He does "rather well" over there, from what I can see.

He was unlucky Heads-Up, too, getting it in good with A-J v 8-9. Oddly, it was a very good Final, & I could happily live with either Uzi-Lover or Penguin winning it, both are good guys.

You not at Luton this coming weekend, for the SPT?

A good example is ex RAF Navigator John Nichol...............his credentials?

Flew one mission in the Gulf and was shot down and captured.

Whilst that wouldn't have been a pleasant experience, he is now considered to be an "expert" on all things military and appears in many News studios commenting on conflicts etc.

Apparently also does the odd spot on Talksport too

LOL

Like you, I don't begrudge him that, not one iota, it's a pretty lucrative sideline financially, I would imagine. But I would hope that thinking people would see the "expert" label as what it is, in most cases - just a label.

Some of the "experts" they regularly wheel out must make a good few bob, even if they only charge, say, £250 a pop.

You going to DTD for the Poker For Heroes day?

I have, at one time or another, been described as: a Gypsy Activist, a Gypsy Leader, A Gypsy Expert, and, (God help me) a Gypsy Elder.

Interesting word of the day:

http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoftheday/archive/2011/03/03.html

gimcrack (as opposed to gymcrack, which would mean something else I'd guess)

Wonderful.

It reminds me of my all too brief school days, and a little girl called Bridget.

"Gimcrack" can ONLY mean one thing.

Because you used it "against" the punter/buyer to make a sale?

Not against, that word has such negative implications. I used it as a reference point. A sort of common ground upon which we could both agree. A place from which I could to begin the process of supplying what suited them.
