The harehounds that I've seen look very similar to basset hounds to me Trev. Are they closely related?

Correct Tom but bred differently to the basset that people see on the street.
Beagles are also used to hunt the hare.

Yes. It's that jittery feeling you get in your stomach when you're excited or nervous.
