Great achievement Tom and nice photos to boot. Pardon the pun.

I don't suppose they're of much interest to anyone who wasn't there Andrew, and they don't really convey the wild beauty or even the sheer vastness of the place.

It's like that with landscape photography though. Even the most stunning sights lose most of their impact when you take away the sounds and the smells and the sense od scale.

Yorkshire wasn't made to be viewed in two dimensions.

Still, I've recorded it for prosperity. Just be grateful I didn't include a picture of my swollen foot...

Great story.

What did your training schedule look like?

I jogged a bit and walked a few miles a couple of times a week and perhaps 8 or 10 miles at the weekends.

It wasn't nearly enough. I had no idea how tough this was going to be.

Poppies are weeds and need exterminating

So. It's a weed. What does that mean, and why does it need exterminating?

What's the difference between a poppy and a carnation?

If they were exterminated we would lose our biggest source of opiates, including morphine, codeine, etc. Remember that the next time you break your leg, or get toothache.....

Well done on the three peaks sir

Poppies grown in the right environment are okay.

I have a seed business and sell poppy seeds which go into old country meadow mixes etc

When i said exterminating i meant from the picture where they appeared in an arable crop of wheat barley rape etc

Poppies, oxeye daisies etc are a menace in modern day farming

Just catching up Tom.  Very well done on the climb!  Amazing what ya can do when you put your mind to it.  After reading your trip report...my mind is safely staying far away from that climb!

As a soft southerner who has never heard of this event, could you tell me the names of these 3 peaks please. Also is this a scheduled event with hundreds of people taking part? My final question is " how far did you have to walk ?"

We going to do a different one then ?

I've already started training as well, playing Tennis, plus I only have chips 6 times a week now.

What was the distance covered in that "Three Peaks" jobbie, Tom?

Incredible achievement at your age.

After seeing Lee do this and now Tom as well I'm quite tempted myself.

Do you think the weather made it a bit easier Tom or would you have preferred a hot sunny day?

Obviously sunny would be better for the views but I'm not sure I'd fancy walking 40 odd miles in sweltering heat.

it's just short of 25 miles, but with very long steep ascents and descents.

It's not a scheduled event, people do it every day. There are guided organised trips though, and there are about three points where the walk comes close enough to a road for people who can't make it to bail out.

This might give you some idea..

IMO the weather made it tougher, but then I haven't tried it in the heat.  It was cold, very slippery underfoot and impossible to stay dry, especially your feet when crossing the peat bogs.

Also, we constantly had to make detours to avoid swollen streams that would have been crossable in drier weather.

I've already started training as well, playing Tennis, plus I only have chips 6 times a week now.

I was in a bit of a quandary to be honest Mond. I know you fancied it, but I really didn't think you were serious enough about it to put the time in to training. Three of Lee's mates trained hard for it and they didn't make it.

In the end I decided to wait and see if you mentioned it again, and take it from there, but you didn't so I just went ahead and crossed my fingers that you wouldn't be offended.

Matt is talking about doing it, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you joined him.
