I'm becoming fascinated by this 'Not having a shave' phenomenon.

It's getting to the stage now where cleanly shaven blokes wouldn't dream of going out in public until they've grown some whiskers.

If I try it, Mrs Red says "Hey! I hope you don't think I'm coming with you looking like that. Just look at the state of you. You look like nobody owns you".

The thing is, as much as I hate shaving, I have to admit she's right.

I's particularly bad when blokes wear a suit and tie and still don't have a shave. That's just ridiculous

.

Sorry Tom.

Why? What did you forget to shave?

What have you lost since the upgrade?  I don't think anything in terms of the layout of mine is different to any of the previous versions.  It's all customisable so you can have it look and work how you want it to.

Status bar.

When I open a new tab now it opens above the adress bar instead of below.

When I want to open a toollbar item in a new tab, I have to open the new tab first. I used to just right-click and select 'Open in new tab'.

OK, they're all easily sorted.

Firstly, install the add-on mentioned above for the status bar: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/

Then you can put the tabs back where they should be (and also have the top menu bar always show if you want):

As for the tab opening, I've always thought the default method in Firefox a a bit strange.  Fortunately, there is the most important add-on (imo) for Firefox:  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/ which lets you control how tabs behave.  I have it set to open a new tab from bookmarks, the address bar, the search box, etc.  There's a lot more it does as well, but that's the big one for me.

Thanks Boshi. I will have a play about with this when I have a minute.

Just so as you know though, if it all goes tits up, it's your fault.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/febe/

Another essential Firefox add-on (imo).  Allows you to back up your whole Firefox profile (all your settings, bookmarks, history, passwords, etc.) and restore them to the same computer or a different one at any time.  Useful if your computer blows up (if you've stored the backup files somewhere safe!) or if you get a new computer and want all your Firefox settings moved over to that one.

Also useful to backup frequently so if you make any changes that someone's suggested on a forum you can go back to where you were previously.  That way if you don't back it up you only have yourself to blame when it goes tits up Cheesy

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
    We will remember them.

There are settings on my browser that I've never changed, buttons that It's taken me 15 years to notice.

I eventually experiment with something. If I like it it's a step forward, if I don't I immediately go back to how it was before.

This is exactly the same kind of behaviour that led tribes in the Brazilian rain forest to discover that certain species of tree frog secrete a poison that can be used on the tips of arrows.

Hopefully not the ones who licked the frogs to find out they were poisonous...

Cryptic replies today.

Matt is sorry for not shaving something, and Boshi is hoping for something but I can't work out what.

Only Boldie is making any sense atm, and that's just mad.

Didn't think it was that cryptic. You were saying that your curiosity was akin to the Brazilian tribesmen who found out about the highly poisonous frogs.  I was saying that hopefully you stumble across the solution without having to 'lick the frog' - or something like that.
