Oh dear. Missed a couple of days and I come back to find 5 pages on RAW vs jpeg. Right up my little geeky street that. Oh well. Bit late now.
You might want to take a look at Adobe Lightroom. Superb piece of software both for managing photo collections and doing post-processing work. It deals fine with jpegs but it works best with RAW. Not particularly cheap, unfortunately, although if you know someone who works in an educational establishment you can get the student and teacher pricing (need to send them relevant ID to get licence code).

Are those the correct colours? Looks a little un-natural to my untrained eye, it has come out bright purple, or it has on my PC.

I still can't see your pics, or upload to Tinypic, I'm using imageshack for the moment. Re the colours. I've been experimenting with some settings (That's the digital equivalent of playing around in your darkroom) and I overdid the saturation in that one. |
