FML, I'm turning into my grandad and my missus' old man. Really wanna go out bird watching now.
My grandad gave me some binnoculars which he, wait for it.... found in a bush on Streatham common. Thinking of putting them to use once i give them a clean.
Is 27 too young to be allowed to do this sort of thing?

Yes. Come back in 40 years, when you're Geo's age.

TBH I wasn't a bird watcher type until the last few days. I do love walking though but I like to walk for a reason other than just keeping fit. Finding wildlife and the like to take pics of has given me more motivation to get out and about.

I really should do something like this. My missus is into it and always tells me stories about this barn owl which flies alongside her car. The other day i think she mentioned the male blackbird is actually brown with a yellow beak or something like that. Our garden is littered with different types of birdy treats. I might even invite her for a nature walk on Sunday. If she doesn't instantly drop dead from the shock I will try and come back with some pics. Could do with a hobbie which doesn't cost me a bundle and the exercise would be a bonus.
WP Red. Although i thought Geo had more than 40yrs on me.

That's a Dipper Geo - lovely wee birds. Do most of their feeding underwater & will dive under some really big waters. A good sign that the water's healthy too.
I've seen film of them hunting underwater but can't find any on youtube - this one shows them diving though:
Just to add about the Moorhen - the Scots name is a Stanky. Their feet aren't webbed, but there are 'flaps' on each toe to give them more purchase when swimming, but they get about on land and in reeds better than ducks etc.
The raptor you're stalking is likely a buzzard, beautiful birds. I see lots of them down here, but getting a good picture is a job!

I've seen a barn owl on the A453 near the power station a few times when driving home from DTD. Massive things, and amazing to watch in flight. Nearly crashed my car!

Just caught up on five months of your posts, a brilliant read as ever, keep it up - loving the explosion of Bird and Photography stuff you seem to have started around the place. In the same five months the old man seems to have ensured everyone knows the difference between concrete and cement and that's about it - amazing how you keep the content level so interesting over here when it must be so tempting to dumb it down to his level.
Hope the job is going well, and you are enjoying it.
Can I ask where did you get your Niger Seed feeder? There seem so many to choose from.
I once asked you a bird question, you didn't answer, google was my friend . . . . just in case you are ever asked again

Rod. You're my hero. how did you know that?
Misspent youth Red - birdnesting is not big or clever - but you learn a hell of a lot about the birds.
Also when we moved back to Scotland my Dad took us lots of walks and spotting animals/birds was a competition while we walked. I'm slightly competitive....
Now I've done it so long I can't help it, used to annoy the life out of the ex when I'd be driving and I'd point out a kestrel hovering that I'd seen out of the corner of my eye. "You're supposed to be watching the road!!!" . I was but the wee movements at the edge of my vision draw my attention automatically.
Was lucky enough to see a woodcock a couple of weeks ago - tried stalking to get a pic, but I reckon if you've seen them they've seen you - it was away PDQ.

What a discerning chap you really are.
I can't believe I didn't answer your question, I'm usually so thrilled that someone has taken the time to post. Even if I didn't know the answer I would have acknowledged the question or made something up.

Haha, glad it's not just me Rod. Cannot help but watch a kestrel hovering by the side of the road or a red kite soaring overhead - even when driving. That barn owl was something else though, as it was flying alongside the car at the same speed, and it looks so different to anything else you see flying.

I recovered that stone today too so more investigation to do.
Geo
I bet that was fun to carry home.
If it's valuable, I want half.
Surely you and Geo would be better to keep the stone as a whole as opposed to splitting it in half!!
