though thinking about it maybe I'm like the pink footed goose. I've spent more winters in the last decade in climates of minus 20-30 than I have here, maybe this is where I come to warm up

Which was my initial point about birds that come here for the winter. I think we have come full circle.

You may not be migratory, but you are contradictory.

Where have you been spending your winters btw, and why?

Thanks Rod.

In yer eye, Thomas.

I don't mind being wrong, I've had years of practice.  Smiley

It's nice to know that an 8 year old girl is enjoying watching the birds with her dad though, and that he's managed to get at least 3 other people discussing it this morning.

People somehow seem to get the idea that if wildlife isn't in a cage at the zoo it's not worth looking at, but in truth we have some amazingly rich and varied fauna and flora in the UK.

Make an effort to notice it. You wont be disappointed.

Hey Red,

looking some information on a couple of birds that have been living in my back garden trees. We have two monkey puzzle trees and we get birds nesting in it, they are all over grey birds, quite fat wee things. Someone told me they were lovebirds but to me, my uneducated guess would be they were pigeons lol

This morning two of them played for about a half hour, jumping over each other and one was trying harder to get closer - it was funny watching it and my 8 year old daughter loved it Smiley

I googled lovebirds but the grey one still has colours on their body and their not like the ones in my yard.

Hope you could shed some light on it.

Thanks.

IN before Tom & Rod - this could be my very first "bird spot".

I'm having half-a-crown each way they were collared doves.

Bingo!

Thanks Tikay - although the ones in my yard were't as fit looking as the one in your picture!

Saw this today. It was carrying a mouse. Just after I took the photo and lowered the camera it transferred it to it's beak, which would have made a much better shot.

These are the alms houses in Frolesworth. There are alms houses all over the place, built by the philanthropic wealthy to house the poor.

There are 16 cottages here in total. I would have taken a pic of the whole row but there was two girls in a red convertible parked right in front of them, which kind of spoiled the ambience.

The lambing is in full swing.

If I has a lamb, I would call him Bamber.
