I'm sure I could handle nuclear waste, nitroglycerin, or a a phial of anthrax without the slightest problem. But gravy.....

I'm sure I've seen you handle gravy without suffering too much damage before.

We have a squirrel that unhooks a feeder, tucks it under his arm and then has it away on his toes.

Kizzy hates him.

Our two dogs going berserk at the back doors tends to keep the garden cat free, but the squirrel just has a cursory glance at the house and carries on eating. As soon as hears the door open though, he leaps up into the adjacent tree and laughs at the dogs from there.

It seems funny to think that most of you whipper-snappers and flibbertigibbets never have, and now never will use Ceefax.

Oh my, Ceefax & Teletext, I used to know every page number off by heart!

It would take for ever to scroll round to the next number, too, whilst we sat & stared at the screen.

Checked the weather, News, footy scores, booked holidays from it, & all sorts.

I once got return flights to Vegas direct from Manchester for £79 off ceefax.

It was from a firm called starbuys who were based in Wales I think.

It even had pictures.

Hard to imagine why they bothered inventing the internet.

For reasons I won't go into, I have to spend a couple of hours  sitting in my van in a street in the middle of Leicester.

I'm in a great spot for people watching. I have the De Montfort university on one side, and the Royal hospital on the other.

The rain is lashing down. Propelled  by mischievous gusts if wind, it slaps the faces of the passers by.

On the one side, small groups of student hurry along. Bright young things in 'make a statement' clothes. They laugh and chatter as they go. They don't notice the rain.

On the other side are the hospital patients. Some are wrapped against the cold, some are in dressing gowns. Alone or in small family groups they walk in silence, heads down, faces set in grim lines. Lost in their thoughts, or in the brief comfort of a cigarette. They don't notice the rain either.

Gather your rosebud while you may.....

I have to thank teletext for the 14 nights in Playa las Americas £229 in 1989

but most of all the joyous midweek nights, way before 5 Live, SSN etc where you'd be on page 303-306 following the fortunes of your football team via ceefax. Typically a division would be shown over 3 pages. Your team would be on page 2/3 and the crucial minutes waiting for the page to roll round to 2/3 again to see if the score had changed

Simple pleasures, or agonies.
