Sadly they didn't make the 70s, but Cream have always been on my playlist

I have a couple of Jack Bruce stories David, we *ahem* socialised a little c1974.

You really should tell them! Indeed I think you should be telling lots of stories, maybe in a diary?
Karabinier's Kapers perhaps?

Although I suspect that that forced alliteration would be anathema to you

The trouble with a lot of my old stories and capers is that most of them are x-rated.

There was a great deal of what is now referred to as "substance-abuse" occurring.

In a few years you will be doing videos like Rowley Birkin and ending them with "I was very, very stoned"

A promise made, a promise kept.  Simple concept, but Alex's small tribute to his father has gone worldwide.  Small world too.  He lives in Ohio...in a town not far from where we're moving to.

That's pretty cool Laxie.

Incidently where you're moving to look fricking cold.

Mrs Red ITT.  Hiya!   Smiley  What music do you like?  When you're on a long car journey, who gets to pick the music?

PS Afraid I'm with the rest of your family on the Chapman thing.

Hello yourself,  well here goes......

Sorry, just don't get her 'miserable juddery' voice, listening to her just puts me 'on edge'.  Appreciate the fact that it is just a 'me' thing, it's her lyrics  I can't do with.....If I'm totally honest the one I hate most is  Fast car it really grates.....

Now ... "What music do I like?"  how long have you got?......  I like all sorts from Country through Rock to Opera.....  I love Elvis (both) Costello/Presley,  George Jones, Jim Reeves, Marty Robbins, Slim Whitman, Charlie Pride, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Wanda Jackson, Kay Starr, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Philomena Begley to name a few.... Dubliners, Pogues, Fivepenny Piece, Val Doonican   ..... Meatloaf, Thinlizzy, Creedence Clearwater Rivival, Smokie, Kinks, The Who, Slade, Mud, Undertones, Jam, Bay City Rollers, Jacksons, Osmonds too many to name ...nearly all the 50's & 60's singers Billy Eckstine, Sarah Vaughn, Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jnr, Dean Martin and more...    Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Vickie Carr, Tom Jones, Englebert, Malcolm Roberts, Des O'Connor, Billy Fury, Walker Brothers, Hollies, Beatles, Rod Stewart, Mickey Bubbles, Westlife and the like... Duffy, Adele, Leona Lewis, Shirley Bassey, Lena Martell, Dusty Springfield, Kathy Kirby, Julie Rogers, Mariah Carey, Amy Winehouse, Celine Dion, Elaine Page, Barbara Dixon the list could go on, too many to mention....I love stage show music like Phantom, Cats, Les Mis, Miss Saigon. I have  a mountain of CDs, cassette tapes, LPs and singles .... I had so many, that one time when we were on the roads travelling.  Tom had swapped for a better trailer so, I had to have a sort out....I threw out over 200 singles and that didn't even make a dent in the pile!

My mam's people are show-people, she had seven brothers and five sisters.  Her father had dodgems and rides, where you played records on two turntables in the pay box, a bit like a disc jockey. (I'm talking fifties, sixties early seventies here) so when they changed the music, my grandad and uncles  used to give all the records to us and I kept them when my dad died.  My dad loved music too,  he sang, played an accordion and guitar. My childhood was spent listening to all kinds of music, most of it very loud (much to the annoyance of my mother!). It varied from the 50's, 60's, and the 70's and was helped by the fact that my dad had made a massive speaker which was about 3ft square that just fitted in one doorway of a 23ft Bessacarr trailer (luckily it had two doors). One large cupboard complete with sliding door was given up to his Ultravox amplifier which to me at the time... was a large humming, blue glowing valved monster, that dared me to touch it, every time it was turned on... a record turntable and hundreds of singles and LP's.
Don't know about my other siblings (three sisters and a brother) but me and my dad came from the same mold, I loved it when he put the records on and turned them up so loud that the windows in the trailer, used to actually vibrate. I'd be in a different world....

Don't know about the other residents on the site or, what they thought, they must of got used to it .... only know that I was in my element.  God love him, after years of not having had electricity, and the fact, that we were never used to bright lights, he decided in his wisdom  to set the scene (for listening to his music) and buy a red light bulb... so, not only was our trailer the noisiest on the site, it was also the local 'red light' area! LOL.
Bless him - how ignorant and innocent we all were...... only hope the other residents were too!
Only now in my later years do I realise how it must have looked...     Still, funnily enough, I haven't changed, music is still my panacea the louder the better!

Car journey -"Who gets to pick?"     That rather depends on who is driving..... if it's me, obviously, I try to listen to something everyone likes...but usually if I'm driving the girls and grandchildren we don't have music on 'cos I like it loud and they don't.   If Tom's driving he usually likes to listen to the wireless (must be an age thing)  lol  - but to give him his do, sometimes we put Offspring or Meatloaf on loud and do a bit of 'headbanging'   [sorry Zel (Redsgirl) for shaming you]x
When I'm driving, it's just me and whomever I decide, could be just me with Elvis serenading or Roy Orbison crooning whichever it'll be LOUD!

This girl divides our family.

Well, I say that, we all love her & Mrs Red hates her. But then she never did have good taste. (With certain exceptions of course.)

That Tracy Chapman album is stunning. Used to big with prisoners.
That's a weird fact! Why is that, do you know?

Perhaps it has something to do with the lyrics.

You got a fast car
And I want a ticket to go anywhere

Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose

You got a fast car
And I got a plan to get us out of here

You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way

I'd always hoped for better

I got no plans I ain't going nowhere......

Sigh......

Wow, that's some list for one list.  Excellent post on so many levels Mrs.!  Creedence Clearwater is one of my all time favourites.  Not so keen on Amy Winehouse.  One thing we 100% agree on though is playing it LOUD!!!
