Masonry paint from an old Grand Designs, he sums it up nicely at the end.

He's right too.
Self cleaning paint, ready meals, dishwashers, disposable nappies.....
Soon there will be nothing left for women to do.
They'll always be able to nag though.

Strange thing is, the make plenty of witty, clever comedies, even the kids stuff like SpongeBob or Wizards of Waverly Place have lots of high brow humour, and we know American drama is superb so why do they get educational or 'real life' stuff so wrong?
Good point, wish I knew the answer - it can't just beTV executives in the UA understimate their audiences.
Often times, those docu shows are replayed in classrooms. Don't know if this is the reason for their 'simplicity', but I do know some teachers prefer to put on the telly besides actually speaking to their students. Back in the day, we thought we'd hit the lotto when we stumbled across a teacher like that. Reason 181 why I'm glad my kids received a European education.
Do they really Laxie? I remember in Junior school they used to show a twenty minute programme called Words and Pictures on a Friday afternoon, but even aged nine we all knew it was just to fill the gap before home-time.
I always had the impression America had a first class, no expense spared education system.
Well, it always looks that way on the telly!

I did a very good teacher training course a while ago. It was very thorough, including looking at comparisons with how other countries approach the same subject - for maths at least; the US is absolutely terrible. That was over 10 years ago, but I've got no reason to think they've changed anything over there since.

Excellent piece spoiled, no, not spoiled, marred, by a WTF analogy.
PS- If this stuff is too highbrow for you gentle reader, pop over to tikay's diary. There's a video of a bloke on there showing you how to mix cement, badly.

He's mixing cement, (badly) it won't be concrete until he's mixed it.
Try typing 'Cement mixer' into google images.

While rooting in one of my tranklament boxes, I came across this.
I can't for the life of me figure out what it is.
It's spring loaded, and has what appears to be a slide rule at one end, and a small guillotine amidships.

You cannot buy ready mixed cement, you buy ready mixed concrete.
