According to the news today, some random bloke says the pool deaths were preventable.
No shit Sherlock!
If you are going to include something in the news, at least make it something that your average 5 year old doesn't already know. I mean, what is the alternative statement?
POOL DEATHS TOTALLY UNPREVENTABLE.
Scientists conclude that even if they had drained all the water out of the pool, concreted it over and turned it into a tennis court, the family would still have still drowned in it.

I have no idea how news outlets select their stories, but this was on the "front page" of BBC News yesterday;

Not to trivialise Ms Lake's problems, but she, and in fact all of us, should give this series of podcasts a listen.

I'm 14st 12lb.
Just for fun, I'm going to do a 'fad' diet to kick-start my weight loss. (What's the worst that can happen?)
The chemical diet, reproduced below.
No proper cups of tea will be a bit of a bugger.

Abstain from all not included in the list.
Eat only what is shown or do without.
No substitutes allowed.
No milk, butter, oils or fats allowed.
Salad includes, lettuce, cucumber, celery and tomatoes.
Drinks allowed: Black tea, coffee, grapefruit juice, tonic, soda, tap water.
Any amount of fruit, even bananas.
No alcohol.
This diet is chemical not quantity so you can eat a whole chicken and plenty of steak.
Guaranteed to lose a stone in a week.
Yeah, right...

Is it healthy to lose that much weight so quickly?
And if you do lose it will it not be equally easy to put the weight back on when you resume normal service - ie eating every two hours?

You're probably right on all counts Ralph, but I might as well get this kind of behaviour out of my system while I'm young and foolish.

That said, if I'd known how horrible it was going to be, I would never have started.

I like almost all foods, but I'm not fond of cucumber or celery and I hate grapefruit.

Other than that, how was the play, Mrs Lincoln?

I'm not a Ricky Gervais fan but he did make an excellent job of hosting the Golden Globes.
My favourite quip:
"We were going to do an In Memoriam section, but when I saw the list of people who had died this year, it wasn't diverse enough. It was mostly white people. And I thought, 'No, not on my watch.'"
