By the sound of it a ferret could give you a nasty bite if you were to startle one, or it was in a bad mood.
Are they more like cats in that respect, defensive rather than aggressive towards humans ?

Occasionally you get a really vicious ferret, but usually they only bite if you hurt or scare them. Sometimes they mistake the movement of your hand for prey and they grab it instinctively. I like this clip of Richard Whitely interviewing Brian Plummer. |
