Am I right in thinking that the football season has just started? If so, I've decided that this year, I'm going to try to take an interest, I want to know what all the fuss is about.
I'm going to choose a team to support, and find out who the players are. I want to learn all about leagues and divisions, promotions, relegations, European competitions etc, and, once I'm more knowledgeable, I want to go and see a game.
So. First things first, who should I support and why?
PS- Please keep all comments light hearted and and friendly. I want to believe that football can be fun.

Today I will be mostly electrician-ing. If you hear a bang or see a bright flash on the horizon, that'll be me.

I'm going to choose a team to support
What is this 'choose a team to support' business? You either support the team closest to where you were born, or closest to where you live now.

Really? See, That's one thing I've learned already.
I have to confess though, I'm a bit disappointed that I don't get to pick.

To be honest, top-class football is rubbish these days - I've completely lost interest. If I was you I'd find out where your nearest lower-league or semi-pro club and follow them.
I suspect that premier league professional footballers would sicken you as people.

Are there exceptions to this rule, if so, can I be one?
BTW- I was born in Chesterfield and I do have a slight interest in Nottingham Forrest (Do they still exist?) as I always used to get stuck in traffic on match days.

Nope.
You support the team in your blood.
If you're coming into the game later you can be a bit picky. What you can't do is change your allegance if things do a bit wrong.

Choose the local underdogs, Notts County.

Hang on, I'm not dismissing anything yet. Make a case for Notts county if you like. Do they have nice polite fans for instance?

Logically, your choices are.....
Leicester City (local). Tighty supports them, & can give you the low-down.
Coventry City. (Local).
Barnsley (family connections). Sheriff supports them I think. No idea why.
Chesrerfield (born there).
Brentford.
On second thoughts, stick to ferrets.
You might enjoy Rugby Union better - it's played by real men.

I'd be tempted to think about Sheffied Utd. They'll be on t'box occaisionally, they've got off to a decent start.
They're not trendy.
No poncy superstars spring to mind.

Football is about misery and dissapointment, followed by rare moments of pleasure, followed by misery and dissapointment.
I think you should pick a team out of a hat, no picking.
Failing that, Sheffield Wednesday are a sleeping giant, could be a good pick.
