Anyone have an opinion on what is the best method for taking money to vegas on holiday.  Buying cash dollars before going? Travellers Cheques?

Since last year the regulations have tightened up on taking money out of country. One of my friends was stopped and interviewed on why he was carrying such a large amount in cash (about 30k gbp) and wanted evidence of where it came from. They allowed him to continue after he co operated but warned him they could have confiscated it without proof of origin.
Just make sure you take some proof with you incase your stopped if taking a large amount. Im not sure on what the limit is

Theres no limit on $ but you need to declare on the blue customs form if you bring in more than $10K  and you need also to declare if you are taking more than $10k out including cheques. If youve won it in a tourny I presume you got a winners slip or ITIN receipt from the casino to "prove" its source.

This happened at Gatwick when leaving the uk. Laws have changed here too

New rules on declaring cash when entering or leaving the UK
HMRC has announced that from 15 June 2007, if you are travelling to or from a country outside the European Union (EU), you will need to declare any sums of cash of 10,000 Euro or more (or the equivalent in another currency) to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

The relevant forms to make the disclosure are available at airports and ports, but the term ‘cash’ covers:

    * currency notes and coins
    * bankers’ drafts
    * cheques of any kind, including travellers’ cheques.

Officers will only seize cash if they have reasonable grounds to suspect it is the proceeds of, or is intended for use in, unlawful conduct.

Seized cash cannot be kept for more than 48 hours without a court order (not including public holidays and weekends).
A court may order seized cash to be:

    * detained while investigations are carried out
    * forfeited permanently if the investigation shows it is associated with criminal activity.

If your cash is seized, you will be given information on how to appeal against the decision.

Depending on how much you are taking you could just take sterling. I found the rate a touch better changing sterling at a vegas casino cage.

Dont know if it will work for Vegas but I use a Nationwide Flex account the rate is good and they dont charge commision.
Used it all over in Florida and drew cash from ATMs no problem so would expect Casinos take it without issue. Be bets to check though.
A quick email to the casino cage where you are staying / playing can save any headaches later.

Nationwide flex a/c card works fine, but casino cashpoints tend to charge 3 or 4 dollars commision, but you do get the official bank rate on it.

the public ones charge $3-4 but the ones in the casino charge massive amounts, can be up to 10% on smaller withdrawals Smiley

if you know anyone that will be in vegas at the time you are going, send them the $$$ online and have them give you the cash when yu get there... if you dont know anyone, post over at 2p2 and ask one of the high stakes people to do it, maybe pay them a fee, it will still work out better then if you try and buy currency over here at any high-street place as they scalp you beyond belief on the x-change rates.
