Surprised Carson has only gone for £3.25mil...
£3.25 rising to £4m. Add this to his loan stints at 2 X £2 million and you get 8 mil for a player bought for 750,000. Not bad even though the end fee is a little low.

Quite probably...
I dont doubt Keane is a good player and will improve what we have, but he's not going to improve it enough for us to challenge for the league...
And i dont say that in a way that i hope we'd sign someone else instead, i just dont think ANY 2 players that are in our budget will make a big difference...
If you mean a title winning difference then I aree with you. But if they improve us enough this year (say to with 3-5 points of the title), then blowing all of next summer's budget on two more might be enough.
All I'm saying is, for the money we have, we're getting there.
Thats exactly it, we are improving, but so are Chelsea, and definately Utd, so i dont think were getting any closer to them if you get me...
TBH with the possible departures of Ronaldo, Lampard, Drogba and potentially dodgy signings like Deco I'm not too worried what the others are doing. If we improve in top 4 matches we'll compete.
If we'd beaten Man U twice last year we'd be six points better off and they'd be six worse off. We then finish above them I think? (I'm not sure) Now I'm not saying that's possible this year, especially if Keane and Barry are our signings, but we didn't even turn up in those games last year. I agree with Carra, we need to compete first. Contemplate winning later.
If we signed no one else this summer I'd expect us to go closer than we did last year. That'd be down to some improvement on our part and hopefully some decline in the big two. Throw Keane into the mix and I dont see why we cant go closer. He's not the ideal signing by any means. But he'll definately improve what we have.
I dont think it's light years between us and the top two, despite what the press, pundits and general consensus may try to make me believe.
A good example is Arsenal. Last summer they sold Henry and bought Eduardo. People expected them to finish 5th. 3 players who'd been there over 2 years each all improved greatly to enhance the team moreso than any new signing. Of course I'm talking about Flamini (4 years there), Hleb (2 or 3 years there) and Adebayor (2 or 3 years there). I expect the same from Babel, Agger, Mascherano, Arbeloa, Aurelio and Skrtel. There are 3-4 players in that list who are potentially world class. If the new signings improve us too we'll be giving it a good go.
yeah i agree, watching liverpools 2 friendlys over the last week Voronin could be the surprise for me this season, you can see hes ready to take his chance now Crouch has gone, he was hard working last season but has impressed me more this week than he did the whole of last season
Voronin is not premiership quality FACT
I think he'd do ok at a mid table club. His link up play is pretty good. But he offers NOTHING that Kuyt doesn't already give. We should sell him, but on our budget we wont.

Crystal Palace have signed Calvin Andrew from Luton, for a fee that Neil Warnock says is well short of 6 figures.
Glad we are splashing the cash
Is John Bostock any good?

John Bostock has the potential to go as far as he wants in the world of football.
I have watched a hell of a lot of football over the years, and never have i seen someone of his age as confident and comfortable on the ball (i include people like Paul Gascoigne) and he has so much ability.
But, i fear that his head may be screwed up by people around him, especially certain family members. he is a very religious young man, but my understanding of the whole situation involving Palace and Spurs is that his father has done him no favours at all.
Being a Palace fan i feel that he has let the club down immensely, wont go into details, i did that in Tighty's diary. My own personal hope is that he never gets the opportunity to play in the first team at Spurs and ends up as an average player, not the world class player that he could end up as.

i thought we would sell him at the end of last season, he is not in the same class as Kuyt , but answering your post ,yeah i do think a few players are capable of improvement this season,i never thought Voronin was good enough for liverpool, he still may not be, but he played well last week, so i would just give him another chance for now,if he plays the same as last season, have to get shut.

I think the end fee fits his class. I've been banging on about him since the England U21 game v Germany when he dropped a bollock in the last minute - he makes David James like mistakes without as much of an upside to balance it out. 2m to loan that for a year?! someone should be sacked for that at villa.

Guthrie signed for Newcastle on 11 July 2008 for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £2.5m, says Wikipedia.

Did you watch him at all at Villa last year or Charlton the year before?
He's made what, 3 mistakes in his life? Two of which were when he was not playing regular football and thrown into a big match. Hardly Paul Robinson or David James.

Sunderland have had a £23m bid for Younes Kaboul, Pascal Chimbonda, Steed Malbranque and Teemu Tainio accepted by Tottenham. (Various)
However, the deal could be jeopardised after Kaboul's agent said his client would not join Sunderland "even if there was an earthquake".
LMAO
[X] Kaboul is top man lol

There's an egyptian at boro, with Mido, don't know his name, haven't seen him play - he is supposed to be one of the top egyptian players... might say it all? I don't know.

I agree, should be like 17m at most.
Value Chimbonda at like 6m, Kaboul and Malbranque 4-5 mill and Tainio about 3m.
