Top pair on the flop
«

It's level 3 of a £100 f/o. Blinds are 75/150 and it's 30 minute clock so plenty of play to go.
I've got about 4000 most others have more because I got here late.
I'm utg and get AQ so raise to 450. 4 callers.
Flop
SB, BB both check, I decide to trap check thinking that someone will steal.
Middle position bets 1500 which seemed quite high if he had nothing. It folds round to me and now I get paranoid and eventually bottle it.
Only read I have is that the guy had recently reraised me all in when I was sat with AQ. He showed AK so I was pleased with the fold.
Did I do the right thing? Should I just think 'what the hell' and go for his chips? I'd trap checked and got what I wanted so should I follow through with the plan?

4 people in the pot is 4x450 so his bet is smaller than the pot.
He raises with soo much here because of your check might be an AK that missed. I call here if I think he'll fire again on the turn if I do so...or i push here if I think he won't....I don't fold here unless the guy only plays KK/AA.

Sorry I didn't really fold. I jammed, he called with a set.
Just wanted to make sure this is never a fold.
If I'd told it like it really was then everyone knows I've run in to a set and thinks it's a bad beat story.
Thanks for putting my mind at ease.
Is there any way to get away from these? 4 callers so maybe there's a chance of a set. I could never fold it but should I have thought a bit more.

No just a cold deck, he played it pretty bad.

no, he played it poorly though..he has position and the only hand you'd call his bet wth is surely AA/KK/AQ or another set? He should have checked it in my humble opinion and give you a chance to hang yourself with a wider range than you had.

he probs thought " nit raises utg 3*bb full handed, so he has a hand, only JJ/AK dont like that board, otherwise i get the cake"

This was one of my thoughts. I often play sets exactly the same way especially if an ace hits but I didn't credit the guy with being that sneaky. After all he had just re-raised all in with AK when I had 3 x raised 2 hands earlier.
Is a bigger raise needed from utg to price the set miners out? I don't want to raise too much because I want action.
I can't think of a way out of it.
NIT?
