I watched "The Cincinnati Kid" at the weekend. Loved it. Last time I watched it, probably 20+ years ago I didn't know poker.
My favourite poker film by an immeasurable distance.
Edward G Robinson made Lancey into such a wonderful character, but it was originally supposed to be Spencer Tracey who played the part. He had to pull out at the last minute.
'''it was originally supposed to be Spencer Tracey who played the part. He had to pull out at the last minute.'''
I guess he was just not ready?
Not sure I've ever met anyone like any of the characters in that film and yet I still think it's brilliant.
it is such a good ending tho with the repeated bits with the shoeshine boy thru the film bringing the line of 'you are just not ready' everytime he beat him. As the young hotshot who thinks he is ready for the big game it is a symbolic ending when he loses all his cash and goes to spoof the shoeshine boy on the way home.... this time the shoeshine boy wins and says to him 'You're just not ready' which highlighted that in some schools you are the top dog and in others you are the underdog and tho he thought he was ready he in fact wasn't.

Watched the bucket list a couple of nights ago. Bucket load of poo.
Managed to fall asleep half way through for 30 minutes.
Dissappointed.
You missed the best bit
I thought it was pretty good myself.
A lot of people do. In fact, probably the majority of people that watched it, thought it was good.
Maybe I was hungry or something
. Will watch again and see if I change my mind.

Django Unchained is incredibly predictable, its pretty much a mash up of the last three Tarantino films.
QT makes the worst cameo in movie history, he really is an awful actor.

Worse than his death in From Dusk Till Dawn? That was woeful

That's the only film where I thought he was reasonable

I enjoyed it, and an interesting cross between a slavery polemic and a homage to spaghetti westerns. with some exploitation movie thrown in
The film did jump the shark when tarantino acted with that ridiculous accent, I agree
until then though, really enjoyed the film
fantastic performance, again, from Waltz and a really unexpected turn from Samuel L Jackson that was terrific

Waltz and Leo were the best thing in it.
I thought the Samuel L Jackson role could have had the working title 'generic Samuel L Jackson role' - very predictable
Each scene was stylish and well acted, but the overall movie just seemed incredibly samey.
It felt like a bloodier Blazing Saddles.

I've just come back from watching
'Django'
and yes, it may be a bit predictable and yes, the Tarantino cameo is pretty bad but it really doesn't matter; not all films have to surprise us and have really intricate plot lines which would be pretty hard to do for every film after decades of film making and so many movies. This serves it's purpose as a very entertaining film and is put together and acted well enough for me to say this has been one of my favourites in recent times. Very similar feel to 'Inglorious Basterds' but I'm absolutely fine with watching it all again in a different setting.

Apparently Emma Watson off of that Harry Potter lark is the favourite to get the lead in the upcoming film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey.
I imagine there is the potential for all sorts of Mills & Boon-esque wizard themed posting to follow below...(-1 if you make an innuendo involving "wand")
Would you actually go and see a film version of this book? Would you want to?

This whole genre will last as long as Pogs, as fads go.
Over or under?

I revisited Taxi Driver last night. Bob De Niro performance is just sublime who plays the part of a Vietnam vet with mental health issues who takes a job as a taxi driver. Story is a bit slower than I remembered but it doesn't take anything away from the film.
well worth the trip down memory lane. 8/10

Watched Django today and thought it was superb, Tarrantino is the boss as far as I'm concerned. He doesn't pretend to bring thrilling plot lines to his audience and I'm pretty sure his acting cameos must be some kind of joke. What he does well in films is produce incredible characters and Django is again full of them. Pretty funny in parts, great dialogue, nice visuals and strong as ever soundtrack.
