Steady away play as expected in these very early stages.

One player noticed to have a decent stack of around 14k is Brian Reid.

I will keep an eye out for Al for you Dewi, last I saw of him he was making the most of beer being available at the bar due to you being absent.

Richard Kellet just took a decent pot down on a  two hearts board firing out 3k into a pot of around 2.5k. With a no show he has steadily started to  increase his starting stack.

Where's Kris and Linford when you need them? I think we're breaking records here! Sadly, not in numbers, 107 so far, but we can boast the fastest ever "floor" shout. The man heading straight into next Christmas' Guinness Book of Records is Dave Smith (he also has the record as the only GUKPT champion from East Midlands to wear a tweed hat at the table), after he asked for a ruling within the first couple of hands. "He can't come in the blind, surely," inquired Smith. And, of course, the newcomer couldn't. Game on.

Wow, it's not often overseas players grace us with their presence here in Nottingham, but perhaps thanks to recent events in London, we are honoured to have Norway's Jan Sjavik and Andreas Hoivold here with us today. Whilst Sjavik has a record of results as long as Mr Tickle's arm, Hoivold is one of few EPT winners to have player in DTD having triumphed in Dortmund last year. Who said this was an easy field?

Greg Hill sees himself in a pot pre flop raising and reraising HU,  a long dwell on Gregs part only to call a 2k bet. Flop brings Two Diamonds  more betting,  2.5 k by matey boy,  bringing a call by Greg, turn and river Two Clubs. Show down both players held AA.  Choperty chop.

As if the ghost of Cat Stevens (or Boyzone for those under the age of, well... tikay) was watching from the rail, father and son combo Greg and Geoff Hill have been plonked on the same table and are set to do battle. They may share the same blood cells, but their approach to the game has certainly changed.

Here we have Greg, an eager beaver braced and ready for his action, ipod to help him focus and a cup of coffee to keep the caffeine count up.

And then we have Geoff...

With Ali Mallu and Pete Linton first round neighbours, it was only a matter of time before something nasty happened. But who would have thought it would have been this early? With on a two spades board, it was of no surprise to see the chips go flying in, especially when it emerged that Mallu had hit the flop hard with . Unfortunately for the youngster, the eight on the turn had him flummoxed, and although he had a single out for the straight flush, no such miracle occurred. As you can see from the photo, with just 2,000, Linton looks like the cat who not only missed the cream, but was tied up, gagged and forced to watch a rival cat eat it in front of him.

Good luck with the updating Mo. A fine, confident start anyway. Relax and enjoy it!
