Just got served this in a £23 a night hotel in Birmingham. Lacking on quantity but cooked nicely and arranged well on the plate imo. Click to see full-size image. |
In before flaming... That sausage looks repulsive.

If you can, get some deece black pudding - some of the supermarket stuff seems to develop some kind of plasticised cardboard exterior if you even slightly overcook it.

Evilpie's list sounds great
Fry the mushrooms on a low heat in a bit of butter.
Clogs the arteries a bit more, but very tasty

^^^^^^^^^^ This. Fry them until the water evaporates and you'll see just the butter/oil left.

Right I've decided that's it's time to attempt an entry in to this amazing thread.
I'm a big breakfast fan but I don't often make them because they're a bit on the unhealthy side.
Before I start I was after a bit of advice from the experts here. I've compiled a list of what I think the fry up will require but have I missed anything?
3 x Lincolnshire sausages. Purchased from local butchers. 3 x slices of bacon. Purchased from same butcher. Black pudding. Again from butchers. May or may not get eaten, depends how I feel on the day. 2 x hash browns. 2 x fried eggs. 1 x scrambled egg. Fresh mushrooms. No idea how to cook these but I'll find out easy enough. Branston baked beans. Chopped tomatoes. 2 x buttered toast. 2 x bread and butter. Mug of coffee. 1 x big plate
Is that everything covered or have I missed any essentials?
I'm really not sure about the black pudding but it seems to be essential from what I've read on here over the last 4 years or so. Hope I'm in the 'love it' camp.
Matt If you want to use the finest produce and if you love food have a drive out to www.gonalstonfarmshop.co.ukOn the Lowdham to Southwell road. It is amazing for fresh meat, fish, produce, dairy and any nice food. Worth a drive out if you love good food. Regards M

Fried slice missed and really only need for one format of egg. Branston beans are nicer than Heinz IMO. Fry mushrooms until almst crispy, chop small and do in butter or in same pan as bacon. Looks epic apart from that

Fried bread is the devils work, no need.
Mushrooms, just pull stalk and chuck it all in, that way they hold the butter.

-1 point. Slice of each given the choice. slice of each +1 The only place I've had that is a Dublin B&B once - it's nice but the white pudding is definitely optional whereas you can'd do without the black.

Evil pie, with the mushrooms key is to 'wipe' them with kitchen towel or a clean cloth with no water. If u wash en first and fry em they hold water incredibly so they go vile when u fry em.
As for how to cook them yes use some kind of fats, the fat/Oil you used for the bacon would be spot on. Only need a quick flash in the pan if u have chopped them into quarters. Obvs they also go super with garlic and herbs if u were feeling a little poncey creative.
