He doesn't have a contract as far as I know. He might be training with the squad for fitness/hoping to impress/trying to bring on andy Carroll.

£8m profit can't really be scoffed at. Dennis Wise will probably think this means he did well... shame there isthe best part of a £13m loss to come from his other centre half aquisition.

Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has launched a scathing attack on his own club, branding the current situation at St James' Park "a joke".

The Magpies face West Brom in their opening Championship fixture of the season on Saturday, but are still without a full-time manager.

Doubts over the ownership of the club also loom large as they begin their first campaign outside the top-flight for 16 years.

Taylor stressed the importance of stability ahead of the clash with West Brom, claiming that the current managerial situation has become unsettling.

"The players are very frustrated because all we want to do is have a manager and a bit of stability. That's all we ask for," he said.
Devastated

"The new manager should be given time to do it his way and if he wants something just give it to him. The chairman, if he loves this football club, would do that. I'm devastated Alan Shearer has not got the job. As players, we haven't a clue what is going on.

"I've read every week that next week Alan is going to be named manager. Then Joe Kinnear is going to get the job, then Kevin Keegan and then Alan Shearer again. I don't get it. The club is a joke."

The 23-year-old centre-back also revealed that Alan Shearer, who managed the club at the end of last season, had already put plans in place for the current campaign.

"Everyone thought he would be back in place. We thought it might take a couple of weeks but then Alan would be the manager.

"And that's why I missed the (Under-21) European Championship. He wanted me right for the start of the season and of course I was happy to do it. I have so much respect for him and whatever he says, you do it.

"He said he would be back and would do it his way. I guarantee if he was still manager now, all our big players would still be here.

"The chairman would have had a headache over the wage bill but whatever Alan Shearer wants, you give him. He commands that much respect and he would take us straight back up."

Why concede a goal when you can do that and get your striker to kick your goalie in the head?

Carroll is a terrific prospect. All heart and passion. Unlike some in the team!

Barton for Carroll? Way to attack the game Hughton. Ameobi should've been offloaded 5 years ago.

Thought Newcastle looked pretty good, esp in Midfield.

Dont really rate the strikeforce, but i guess it can do a job at Championship level.
