Haha mclaren even turned down an offer to manage us, how bad are we!

Do we think he would've thought about it if Ashley wasn't here

Derby bigger club innit. Twice top league champions and European cup semi finals years after the last time the Geordies won anything. Grin

and the geordies not get anything from their last two games.  They are safe.  Relax.  7/1 to go down is a cracking lay.  Get stuck in.

What an absolutely horrible season, yet ended so well.

So many changes needed.

Btw how good were Anita and Gutierrez yesterday, showed some heart to say they ain't first team players

Southgate on McClaren to nufc: "It's great for Steve. A great appointment. He's very undervalued in this country in the way he's perceived"

views on the appointment?

expectations for the summer?

what do you want steve to do to the squad, given a likely budget....

It's a bit of a meh appointment although certainly an improvement over Pardew. We do seem to have a thing for employing managers sacked from lower league teams. He's at least had high points in his career so hopefully another one here.

Squad wise we need at least three defenders (Janmaat is the only one really good enough), a few midfielders, and a striker.

We're apparently now able to "punch above our weight" but I'll believe that when I see it.

It could be a lot worse. Cons are that he has been sacked from his last 4 jobs and failed to deliver with one if England's most talented crop of players.

Pros are that somewhere somebody thought he was talented enough to be England manager without much previous pedigree.

I'd like to sign the following

Goalkeeper: jack butland (sell Krul, net profit on deal)
Defenders: Micah Richards, Steven Caulker
Midfielders: Leeroy Fer, Mohammed Diame
Strikers: Charlie Austin and one of Patrick Bamford / Jesse Lingard

Sell: tiote, sissoko, Cisse

buy/: 2/3 others from French league.

Need to aim to finish 10th and have a good young team with some
Promising talents and a good run in the cup.

Not aiming for Europe just hoping to compete and play attacking football.

You are welcome to Caulker.

Woeful last season, slow, positionally unaware and for a big fella, he was outmuscled far too often.

Amongst all the signings last summer, I was most pleased with Caulker. He was a bitter disappointment.

You are more likely to sign Bergovic than Butland imo from Stoke.  No idea how you think Krul would command a bigger fee than Butland either.  You would be a big net spender imo if you did those two deals.

Think it is a great appointment.  Cheap for Ashley as he doesn't have to pay any compensation.  Under rated gaffer in this country with a point to prove at the top level.  What do the fans think of his mboro connection?

what has happened to Carver?  Booted totally or put back into the bootroom?  Is SMac bringing in his own entire backroom team?

Dont care about the boro connection, other than boro didnt really like him as he was a bit negative (most fans I know celebrated england taking him). There isnt a massive rivalry like the sunderland one. Thought he did a great job in holland against the grain, not expecting miracles but this is a similar job where hes outgunned and needs to punch above their weight.

I hope he gets a bit more input then pardew did on transfers as he may be to give us a bit of a tougher core then carr bringing in froggies who wilt under the pressure. Mix in a few steady prem players with our decent record of french/continental signings, might give us a bit of consistency. (our results from last 5 years have to be the most unbalanced in prem).

Carver wont go, ashley is loyal to his cronies. He'll move somewhere or be back after a while minimum (running a sports direct stock liquidation near you soon)
