I have had the G1 for weeks now and it is just wasted on me. The mapping system has come in handy when the sat nav screwed up a couple of times, managed that ok. It is my own fault, I have never been a textbook learner, much prefer to be shown. Being as I do not know anyone else that is a tad impossible.

BTW Kin, can you really cut and pastes?. I can not even fathom how to go back a page, lol.

You'll have to come to DTD one weekend, and I'll spend 5 minutes showing you how to use your phone!  It really is dead easy.

Going back a page...you just hit the back button to the right of the trackball...

As for copy and paste, yes it's easy to do - I'll show you that as well.

What's better, and why?

  • G1
  • Nokia 5800
  • Samsung Pixon

I will use my phone as a Walkman, to browse the net and to take pictures...but I don't know which one to choose! I'm leaning towards the Samsung atm...

i am really liking this nokia e71. primarily i use it for email and phone but itworks really well with some other stuff

- installed Slick and now can use virtually any IM
- browser is more than decent
- bluetooth streaming of music to the Parrott kit in my car (very cool!)

previously i was using a blackberry, but found it a bit cheap and plasticky. so so far its a thumbs up

I've had the G1 for two days.  I'm so glad I chose to get it.  But I'm sure the other phones you mentioned will do what you want.  Horses for courses.

I managed to get the wireless tether working for mine today, so that I can connect to the internet through the phone's connection.  This was something I planned to do, but was hastened by our connection going down in the office today.

Works brilliantly by the way.

There are two ways.

One requires root access and hacking the phone

[ ] I'd recommend this to you

That then enables you to use the phone as a wireless dongle in effect - and more than one computer can connect to it.

The other method doesn't require root access, so is safer and easier.  There's an app you can download to do this.  I've not downloaded it yet, but I'll have a look at it and when I do I'll then explain what you need to do to get it to work.

You have to be careful if you do use it as a tether though.  I think the usage is capped at 3GB or 5GB a month, and if you exceed that the speed of your connection will be capped.  So it'd be fine for browsing and as a back up connection in case your broadband goes down, but not for downloading loads of video or porn.

[ ] I'm sure that's the same as it acting as a wireless router to more than one computer.

Just ordered a new phone, was a toss up between the G1 and the blackberry 8900 curve. Went for the 8900 (12 month contract) i'll probably get the g2 or maybe even g3 in 12 months when the android OS improves and they get a decent battery.

I just ordered my new Blackberry 8900 Curve from o2 as my contract was ending.

I said I want to cancel and was offered instantly:

Brand New Blackberry 8900 (free)
600 mins
1000 texts
Blackberry Bolt on (unlimted net)
free o2 to o2 calls
18 months contract £19.75 a month instead of the £35 a month online.

Result Smiley

Do not get a tocco, I have had nothing but trouble with it, it keeps freezing and is virtually useless.
