Loved the "we'll deduct it when it really hurts you" approach they've taken as well lol.

That's what you get for trying to bend the rules IMO. "It wasn't us that went bust, it was the company"...bollox.

You'll won't be laughing when the crook who owns your lot gets rumbled and Pompey go down the swanee too.

Right result. If not every club would be owned by a parent company.

Don't dispute that, but from a legal position, the football club is not in administration, even the administrator has come out and said that.

Therefore, there is a loophole here, I'm not suggesting it's right, but if the rules and reg's are properly followed, then the punishment is wrong.

I know the firm that consulted on the football clubs structure and they knew exactly what they were able to do, surprised other clubs weren't aware of it. (Not that it matters now anyway)

I don't think it would make a difference as Saints will get relegated this season, and to be honest on their play, it's what they deserve.

Hopefully though, the club will sort out it's financial situation and get onto a more stable footing, whichever level of the league that happens to be.

More bad news for them though, is that if they dont get enough points to finish outside the bottom 3 this season, then the 10 point penalty will be next season in League 1, making it almost impossible for them to bounce straight back.
Charlton and Southampton in League 1 - who would have thought that 5 years ago.

Dunno -15 points and we finished just outside the top 2. If Leeds had just the -10 penalty it would have seen us promoted 2nd.

League one is full of utter shite teams who don't take much to rollover, I would still be optimistic of at least playoffs if you keep the nucleus of young talent.

Agree with what you have said Pawprint. I didn't think they would or could be punished. I meant it was the right result for football in general not a correct decision.

but next season's league 1 is looking like being a lot harder, especially if you fail to go up. 10 points will be too much for them to overcome

They've done this deliberately to ensure we finish bottom regardless Sad

[ x ] we could have used the extra £4.67 for finishing 23rd on the pyramid payout scheme to good effect next season

-10 at the start of next season will be enough to see us go down to the 4th level of english football

it will be along distant time before we get back in the championship let alone where we belong in the ECL

And here's me worrying whether we'd beat the drop for weeks, all that analysis of "who you got left" etc etc was a waste of my time ffs.

It's all a question of how many players leave in the summer.  Keep that squad and I think it's good enough to make the playoffs.

Does Andrew Davies still play for Southampton? Nice to see he wasn't out having a good time, getting drunk and generally being a big time Charlie in a teesside nightclub on the day his employers are relegated.

How much of southampton's downfall is linked to leaving the dell? Loss of home record? Financial pressure of stadium loan?
