How on earth to win on the horses.......
«

Evening
I have been a 'lurker' here for sometime, and have enjoyed the fruits of your tips occaisonally, but when ever i go freestyle on the horses (and I am an e/w better) I return absolutely nothing! I open up, gg.com, attheraces.com betfairs little preview of the race, I see the same names being favoured, so think yep... sit back and spend the winnings on the next race.... Extraterrestrial 8th!! When starting out in the world of horse racing what should I be looking out for? Any tips for tomorrows racing would be lovely as well!
Thanks

Lesson 1
You never actually win on the horses.
Lesson 2
The more races you gamble on the more likely you are to win
Lesson 3
Its the taking part that counts

Be prepared to put every single penny on the line, all or nothing...
Just ask Horneris. He
works at SkyBet
bets on shit for a living whilst at work, pretending to do stuff, but still gets a wage packet.

I think you have to study hard.
You have to grasp the form, using many key fundmentals, such as each horses effectiveness over: ground, distance, course, on the current mark.
You also sometimes have to take into account the draw, the handicap weight, jockey bookings, trainers form and history. & loads of other things.
Watching videos of horses past runs is also an effective tool.
You can do this on At The Races for free or on Racing Post webiste for 10p (Racing uks courses are not covered on At The Races video).
Its a good idea to take notes of horses in races and consider them for the future if something catches your eye. Not neccessarily the horses flashing home, because everyone notices that and the price on the next run is adjudged accordingly, things like the jockey not working too hard, or the bad draw being the factor in the bad run etc etc.
A system that i kinda like (altho systems are for mugs) is making a note of horses whove been gambled on and havent performend as they often win races in the next couple of starts. The webiste you can use to track horses and make notes of them using a Notebook is
www.turftrax.com
You can ask them to email you declarations of when your horses will run which is a fanastic feature. I have over 300 horses in there atm. And this is free.
Basically, you have to put shit loads of work in, often for little reward.
If im going to the races and i want to win a lot of money, i will expect to put in at least 5-6 hours of study for just 7 races, and im often only going to find 2 or 3 good bets.
Saying this, i think my edge on most people concerning betting on horses is my memory of horses and their runs. I watch pretty much every race in the UK and can usually remember horses previous performances well. If i go to York races and theres a 16 runner handicap over 5f, i am going to know most details on most horses.
Poker is easier anyway. Although not as much fun.

Good post BH, ill have to link a few of my friends to that. Maybe they might realise what work is required if you want to be a shrewd punter.

Excellent post from Brent "I am the real golden bollocks, just watch me back 50-1 shots" Horneris.
It's bloody hard graft backing horses.
It really helps if you can watch old races back ATR are superb for this...(youtube as well when it comes to big races). I Sky+ just about everything, I buy a racing post daily, read the RP website, sportinglife website etc. daily. I buy the Weekender, the Outlook and all that shit. I spend at least 2 hours a day studying and that's in preperation of something that might never come.
If I have a "feeling" a horse might win a race on Saturday I will start picking that race apart on Tuesday and it lasts all week...and even then you often find out that the field is decimated and your horse doesn't run in it....bye bye week.

With horse racing there is so much relevent information that is just not in the public domain, and can seriously affect how a horse will run on any given day.
is the horse in good health, has it had a recent breathing operation, did it run badly last time for a reason?
I like to follow the betting market and if when the money is going down on a horse that should have little chance in a race there is probably a good reason for it.
That aside short of good inside information very very few people do well from horse racing

Thank you for the posts... I was hoping for 'stick with the funny names', as oposed to the graft that you guys seem to put in.
Basically my joy of the horses came from putting a £10 ew bet on Hennessy, when he won that cracker to take it at the post, about 2, 3 weeks ago! bringing home £120, which for myself were riches beyond belief. So when ATR and GG give you their top tips, my thinking was that they had done everything that Horneris had said for me already. Right, off to the shops to buy my racing post and get noting on next weeks races!

I have slowly but surely realised I do not have the patience for poker, and am waiting for the scandal to come out that its all actually fixed and 'Stan2k' didn't beat me with 6 4 when I had K K!

unfrotunately horse racing requires as much, if not more, patience.

I thought tennis was that after having a great start to the season...... Until the Williams sisters ruined me!!!
right... so heres my usual technique for my saturday at the races (watching channel 415) Open gg.com, attheraces and a selection of betting sites, 1.50 Newmarket, All sites give 'Merdaam' a good write up. In my mind all these sites think this horse can do it, guaranteed buxs!!!! £5 ew to to play it safe! 5.3 odds, good start to the day! lets see how this works out! (This is in no way a tip) =)
