If you do connect to the main input socket by removing the face plate, you wont get an immediate improvement, it can take BT up to 4 days to resync your line speed

True. If you have crap wiring then you would see an improvement in the Signal Noise Margin stat in the router diagnostics but not neccesarily an immediate improvement in line speed.

Stick your phone number in http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php. Does it list any LLU operators for your exchange?

Yeah says LLU

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/SDHV

1.7km, heeeeeeelp!

try o2/be . they are about the best out there speed wise.

Are they not limited by the same things BT are?

not really. i have some sites that could only get 1meg with bt who are now getting 8meg and upwards with BE. also their upload speeds are great.

Cheers m8 will call BE on Monday i think!

Do i have the worst internets on blonde?

I get 2meg during the daytime, then about 0.5meg at about 7pm-11pm. Im with BT and they capped my speed because of too much downloading

I get tez internet speeds at the moment, 0.5Meg, this is through BT and i don't live in a virgin area, is there anyone i can switch too to get a faster connection?

The Line is the limiting factor i am assuming?
I get exactly the same Flushy, seems it is tough shit until BT upgrade their exchanges.

b) you're with an ISP who throttle stuff in the evenings. Some claim to do it only to the top x% of heavy users, some claim they don't do it all.

Now how funny you say this.

I called SKY when my speed had dropped to aboit 0.1MB a couple of weeks back (I'd tested it because even by my normal utter pishy standards it was slooooow), and they had me do all the usual stuff, and eventually blamed the distance from the exchange, and the fact I am not using the main telephone socket in the house, as to why my respone times were poor.

Yet since I got off the line to them, it has been back to my normal shotty 0.5MB speeds again

I'm in the same spot as Flushy, 0.5GB broadband only via ADSL. No Virgin. 1.3 miles from exchange.

What's the difference with an LLU operator? I only have Orange, Tiscali and Talk Talk listed as available in my area.

Move house. That's what I did. 3 weeks ago I was in the middle of nowhere getting 1Mb if I was lucky. And I'm closer to DTD now too. Simple, DUCY?

I moved from BT to O2 a while ago (admittedly because of the price), and got a marked increase in speed as a bonus.

I'm 1.6km from the exchange - as the crow flies - but more like 3.5km as the cables run.
