And a special thanks from blonde to everyone at Rank, Grosvenor, Blue Square, & especially all the staff here at Grosvenor Southampton, who have been friendly, helpful & accommodating to us throughout.

The comp went like clockwork, & the structure & clock were just about spot-on, the buffet was excellent, & the valets were just great.

And an extra thank you to Jonathan Rabb, who assisted us during "staff shortages" tonight, due to tikay going all the way (but no further) to the Supe-Duper Bubble yet again.

A perfect day. Well, almost.....!

Goodnight all.....

HI there, nice to read the updates here.  Thanks for not calling me a total muppet, as i know sucked out loads on the final table.  I have a lot to learn!!
Jo was excellent, well done to him.  I had to go all in with the 44 - thought it would be a 50-50 and no way i could out-play him heads up.

Well done to everyone who played.

Hi David (Capon), I most certainly would not call you a muppet, you did just great. And you read the situation - that Joe would clearly outplay you if you tried to play down the streets - very well & combatted it superbly. If your 44 held up, it was almost all over.

And don't underestimate the scale of the task you faced. Joe is World-Class - truly - he just, in effect, won a serious comp in America for almost $400,000, & has won comps all over Europe, he is top drawer. So a great performance by you.

When will it be on TV? Wednesday night, for 7 nights running, 11pm, Channel 425.

I do feel I need to apologise for the sparcity of, & delay in, last night's Live Updates. My internet connection (mine, not the Casinos) was so flaky it drove us all mad.

And special thanks to Aklright Jack, without whom we would have had nothing at all until there were 13 left.

Thanks Tikay.  Was a pleasure to help with them. I would have done far more updates if the connection had been better.

Thanks for the kind words Tikay Smiley Was it you who gave me the blonde poker card with a couple of tables to go?

To do well in these tourneys you certainly do need a lot of luck, and i got that without a doubt. The worst thing about how I played was that I lost my cool on the final table. I let my emotions take over, especially on the big pots where I sucked out. I should have stayed seated and calm. Well there is always next time. Any one know a site of listings of kool tourneys like this one?

One observation I did make before the final table, meaning no disrespect to other people was that many of the pros were playing a lot of hands, and trying to jackal the pots. I know that my post flop play would be no where near their skill levels but sometimes they did walk into situations that I myself would prefer not to get into. I hate to swing in chip amounts, and I saw lots of people doing it. I thought that Williie Tann was a prime example; i really did not want to clash with him as I thought he is the kind of player who would follow through with continuation bets, perhaps with his whole stack. If I clashed with him and lost i knew that i would lose all Folding equity. I much prefer to sit back and play my top hands, so that people know that if they come in against me it is going to be against all my chip stack, and a strong hand. Saying that i had good banter with Willie and enjoyed playing with him. He seems to be a very nice guy.

Another example I noticed was perhaps camel (only guessing this was your name because the report talks about someone losing 77 to AA. The large guy?) Well anyway he had a lot of balls. He must have sensed weakness in my preflop raise and pushed all in. I just did not feel that he had a top pair, so after a while i called with JJ and he showed A8s. He hit his A and took half my stack (stack size being another consideration in calling). Personally I would not make this move from middle position with others still to act, especially seeing as i wasn't playing many hands. The hand which he went out on there was a raise in early position from a seemingly tight player (derek??). He re raised with 77 and then called another re raise. Just wondering if you are reading this, did you have a special read? I would fold 77 without hesitation to an early raise. What i hated about his re raise was that it showed weakness. It made him pot comitted and i read it as 'i don't like my hand that much but want to steal' - he had no folding equity if re raised. I thought that he should have been a lot more assertive. If he gets reraised his whole stack has to go in anyway. If I thought the other player was weak I would push my whole stack in and put the pressure on him to make a decision. There is nothing worse than when betting impetus keeps on changing hands and you don't know where you are (even more crucial in post flop play). I find that a lot of players justify moving in with low pairs, justifying it by, 'i thought he had AK- giving a 50:50'. That is probably the best case scenario, and to be honest you are going to lose with it more often seeing as you walk into higher pocket pairs more often than not.

(i don't mean to offend anyones play, just hope to start a discussion, and this is my two cents)

Take care,

David

Nice post David. I am on a train right now, so hard to reply in a manner that does justice to your post, but I will reply later. And yes, it WAS me that gave you the blondepoker card. I think we found ourselves sat together in the semi, just before my QQ ran into AA....

I saw your interview today when we recorded the Poker 425 show - you came across just great! Try & watch it, 11pm tonight & every night for 7 days.

Well I don't know what torrents are, other than heavy rain or a Scottish golfer, but I am sure you are right.

i thought i remembered your face from the pic.  I think you sat down on my right, and I asked you very nicely not to steal my blinds when you sat down. Can't remember if u did ot not though, but u were busted pretty quickly vs that AA Sad  I am sure it was rigged!!!  I think you should phone up and complain about their random card generator being flawed and stealing your money!!

Correct, you got me! I sat to your immediate right, saw your tidy stack, & said "ooh, are they all yours?", & you replied, "Yes, & dont try stealing them, because I won't stand for it"......

So I made a mental note to attack them. And then I found that damn QQ, & the rest is history........

Tell you what, the Southampton lads are a really friendly bunch, & I made a whole load of new mates. Great stuff, can't wait to come back.
