I remember the days when we had to go down the bottom of our street to use the phone box!

Shouldn't have posted this sorry,we are gonna get a tikay story involving some tin cans and a bit of string now for sure!

I remember going to the phone box to ring Mrs Red when we were courting. I used to be in there for ages. People would tap on the glass and tut tut at me.

It used to cost a fortune (Well a few coppers, but it was a fortune to me) until I realised that if I reversed the charges to her phone box, neither of us had to pay.

Notting Hill Carnival riots? That's the Westway (A40M) above, on the left. Can the story be about anything - electricity pylons, for example - or does it need to be linked to the photograph?

See those lamp-posts above the A40M - top left?

Well they have all been cut off at about 1 metre above ground level, so no longer work, but the "stubs" remain there to this day.

For 5 bonus points, why?

nothing to do with the carnival, in fact I think it predates it

pic actually looks like a relay race at a fancy dress sports day. it's even got its own ice cream van

Because if they tried to get them out it would weaken the structure in some way perhaps?
