I stayed downtown yesterday and played the Binions 2pm. $110 tourney which has a $10k guarantee and gets just over 100 runners. I chipped up from the 5k starting stack to 8.5k at the first break but went very card-dead for the next session chipping down to around my original 5k. It gets pretty crapshooty after the second break and I 3-bet shoved the opener with AJ of green(see how I'm picking up the lingo?) and got another shove behind. Not a bad spot really as one of them had QQ and the other KK, unfortunately I hit the J instead of the A and it was gg me.
After a refreshing cup of tea in my room in The Nugget(you must put bottled water in the kettle it makes all the difference) I decided to check out the $1/2 games at The Nugget which get pretty damn hairy at the weekends with their unlimited pullup. I sit in the game for a while starting with $300 and have chipped up a little to about $400 when who should arrive on my immediate left but my new buddy Andreas Hoivold who told me last Saturday that he was going home on Tuesday. A week is a long time in Vegas and he is now selling his house in Norway and looking to buy something here; I suspect that he has been bitten by the love bug judging by the new twinkle in his eye. Anyhow I digress..
Andreas is on my left and sits down with $1k. On Andreas' left is a wily Chinese guy who goes by the handle of "Bruce Lee" and always sits at least $2k deep and generally likes to cover the table. It's my BB and Andreas straddles of course for $4(this is his first hand remember) there are a few limpers including Bruce and Andreas raises to $30. Bruce snap-shoves his $2k and Andreas snap calls his $1k, all of this happening slightly slower than the speed of light !
Bruce tables KQo and Andreas shows 33 which hold for a tasty first pot of the evening.
I got lucky in the game when I called a small raise on the button with 63 of green and the flop came 2, 5, 9 rainbow which was checked around. On the turn along came the

smoking a pipe for a sweet nutshot(I just made that term up) and the guy who was slow-playing his set of 555 paid the full penalty by grtting felted, kerrrrrching

I decided to leave the game around 12.30am as I was a little tired and the game was seriously volotile. I must just say what a splendid fellow Andreas is, always in good humour even after a bad loss. I like him a lot and hope that things work out well for him here.
I was going to play the super-sat for the V's ME today although I'm coming home on Tuesday as you can sell the lammers if you win but I had a restless night after following Kinboshi's "Beginners' Guide to Sushi" and sampling a sashimi of Toro which tasted delicious but kept me awake all night virtually.
I'm going down to the V now to see if there's any Omaha and to mingle and hopefully rail a little.
