The Venetian deepstacks are poker tournament perfection, end of. I will never again miss the first couple of levels in one either, as it's just too much fun. I must have been in around 80% of hands up to the break yesterday, and nobody would play back.
Went from 12000 to 30000 without a single hand, A9 being the best, and loved every minute. Tony Chapman was on the same table until going overboard with A9 v JJ on a nine-high board.
After that it was steady accumulation, the highlight being a sicko call of an all-in with 29 suited (I decided there's no reason why it shouldn't have similar powers to 39 suited) for 5500 more into a pot of 8000. Just about the right price against the Vegas classic that is KQ. The 899 flop send him spinning, and a king on the river didn't seem to help calm him down. LOL.
Lovejoy got moved on to my table just before dinner and both of us had around 100,000 at the dinner break. After dinner, though, he went one way and I went the other. First he picked up another 40,000 odd, then doubled up with JJ v K5 on a 345 flop, then found KK v my JJ to take me out. That put him around 350,000.
He's back at the final table this afternoon second in chips and I hope he wins it. Top man is KOL.
PS, there are two conventions in town, the one on concrete and one on flooring. Tikay must be seething that he's not here to take photos of concrete mixers and floors before/after.

5th unfortunately Mr. M. Though my game seems to be in reasonable shape and for the first time ever I have nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon so the £100 beckons even though some nutter offered to buy me into dtd. the world has gone mad.

guys, is anyone going dtd on weekend? fancy a car share? its a long old schlep and some company would be good. plus i saw something on the tv about polar bears being forced to eat rubbish due to gloabal warming so we can help out in a tiny way and have good karma. good karma = more flip tokens imo.

Now behave you two. Anyway the weather is too foul. Luton on Sunday it is. DTD in April has just gone in the diary. As has Walsall for 300. Now the only question is should I get some investment or just pay for it myself......hmmmm.

I was misinformed about Lovejoy returning to yesterday's final table as second chip leader, he was in fact around average. I'd still have had him no bigger than a 2/1 shot against eight random US donks, though, and he duly landed favouritism, taking the win after doing a deal three-handed. V.pleased for him.
Vegas is not a place to play if you don't like being hollywooded or slow rolled. I don't but still (usually) just chuckle when it happens. I try to remember the R.Garfield line about most of them not realising what slowrolling is, let alone that they're doing it. Anyway, I suffered the lot yesterday.
It was the same as Wednesday in the deepstack, playing pretty much every hand in the first few levels, and having nobody play back. I was up to around 50,000 when the average was around 25,000 but then got bogged down during the 600-1200/800-1600 rounds. These are the levels when the US boys like to shove 26xBBs from early position with A7 and the levels when you most need cards.
Down to 35,000 with the blinds 1000-2000 the level before the dinner break, the cut-off made it 4000 (lol), I re-rised to 11,000 on the button with AK. Folded back round to him and I got the whole lot, the full stage audition.
'How much more do you have?', 'Could I get an exact count please'. Then he counts his chips, then stares into space, then stares me down for a few seconds, then sighs, then waves his arm, then says all in.
I know exactly what he's got but I've got a third of my stack in and I'm not coming back after dinner with 24,000, so decided he deserved having his aces cracked. The board came jack high, I congratulated him on his fine etiquette and called him an exact count, or something similar (not really, never would). It's all so unnecessary.
So, off for a quick kip and back for the $120. Same story pretty much, good start, then bogged down a bit during the shove monkey phase.
With two tables left the blinds hit 2000-4000(500), so 10,500 in the middle each time and an average stack around 50,000. Not the best structure innit?
I had 25,000, so was obv monkeying any two if folded round to me, with three stacks of around 50,000 behind me. In they went with Q3. Then it happened again. The BB asked 'How much is that exactly please?'. 'Ah man, that's like half my stack'. 'I really should call but I don't know whether I want to risk it'. 'OK, I call.' Ace king. Ace and a queen on the flop. Marvellous.
This time I let a few words out, which the young hoodie guy next door found amusing. The only bit AK man heard though was 'I hope you go on to win it, you certainly deserve to'. He nodded his head and said 'thank you'. Roffle.
Onwards and upwards, first $500 today...

Yesterday's deepstack, lost a 55,000 pot with AA v AK ten minutes before dinner. Sigh.
Yesterday's $120 donkfest, got a big stack early and went out just outside the money, losing a race. Sigh.
But that's tournament poker.
Had a completely different table in the $500, not because the overall standard was that much higher, just because I got a tougher table after two really weak jobs the previous two days.
Had to tone things down a bit early and was up and down a bit. Ultimately, though, I caused my own downfall, playing a hand badly not long before the AA incident and losing an 8000 pot I should have won.
The elimination hand, blinds 800-1600 (my BB), UTG makes it 4000, big stack makes it 11000, I go all in for 25000 odd. He makes the correct call with AK. Had I been pushing 33000, though, he prob passes.
No joy with my 5% of Tony Chapman either. He was going well when I got knocked out but no sign of him not long after the dinner break. Aah nuts.
I still fancy things might turn round, though, and I might extend the trip if the cold snap continues towards next weekend.
Some random thoughts...
Alex, you should play these Venetian tourneys in the summer imo, they're perfect for your game. Ideal for a dancer-believer.
Found out the woman I'd been picking on the day before is the editor of pokernews. She came and asked me my name last night. Didn't want a phone number with it though, so the mystery deepens. Thought I was in. FML.
Still no fillet mignon. WTF? Three Noodle Asias ftw.
I had the ultimate pkr.com cartoon character at my table in the crapshoot last night. Just hilarious. I could have watched him all night.
Prob not playing the $1000 tomorrow unless I cash somewhere today. Time for a day of shut in.
Temperature here in the mid 60s. How you like them apples limeys?
