Ur running 13th in a major and you want to shove 60% of your stack in on a flip...why play for 2 days... just flip the coin at the start..

Time to gamble imo, can't sit around all night. Even if he's got aces, I can hit king king or 10JQ. I like my spot.

• Under the gun raises to 5,700 and I find AK on the button and decide to re raise all in. (UTG had raised light a couple of times). He dwells for ages and eventually folds saying he put me on a massive hand. He shows Jacks face up and chats with the chap to his left who confirms that you have to go with your read. I rake in the chips quietly saying nothing, but pleased with the fold and the addition to my stack.

what an image you must have had. His stack was?

what a fold, and what a horrible show of the Jacks lol

True I have never hit George, off the table he is a real nice chap, but on it he is horrible, his game plan is to upset everyone and he is a past master at it. Lots of times I have seen him come very, very close to being punched but it has not 'yet' happened while I was there. I will be watching out for all of you who don't know George to really find out how he does it, then you can try to explain it to me, you really have to experience GEORGE in full swing to understand. I'll keep watching and waiting.   good luck. x

Good report Alan.....

• The opportunity to avoid a big confrontation arises quickly! After a raise to 6,000, active player (Neil from before) goes all in for 60,000. I find AK and have a dilemma, but the cautious voice in my head tells me to fold, so I do. Original raiser folds and Neil takes the pot, saying he had AK. I tell him I also had AK and he’s astonished, saying he'd never fold AK in that spot. Near the bubble, it felt right to me. What do others think?

Fold is fine... too many people just want to throw 60bb in pre with AK and then wonder why they are walking home.... this advice from a man who calls a bet and a shove from you ( a tight player ) with Q9..his advice can be dismissed... if you want to see an example see the pha board from saturday a hand with Greekstein..loads of him telling to shove half his stack in with one pair in the face of huge strength... the outcome..he was on the end of an arse kicking...so many of these so called players think their brilliant because they can shove the lot over the line pre or on the flop.... i love people telling you u played this hand wrong that hand wrong..' oh you should have shoved'  where are they usually...on the rail m8 asking someone to sponsor them...

Thanks Dean. I felt the fold was right. Why risk elimination when I could so easily be dominated when there must be a better spot to gamble and be first into the pot?

I admit to be playing a  bit cautiously near the bubble and I do recognise that others can take advantage of that, but it was a big tournament for me and to cash was important. Funnily enough not for the £1,500 - it was much more for the achievement and Hendon Mob database entry that I wanted so much!

Motivation is a strange thing eh ?

I'd be more inclined to call with AK because it is near the bubble.
But he knew that if he went all in, most of the time you couldn't call.

Is all this from memory or did you write it down? If you win the league I'll buy you a Gus Hansen-style dictaphone. Here are some key phrases you'll need:

"MDD just sucked out on me. Jeez he runs good."
"Captain's log, stardate 102.74.65, let the record show Tighty just played a hand."
"I just raised but Sir Donkeys wouldn't let it through, smoothing oop so he could peel."
"Megadong just raised 12xBB utg. It got through. He showed pocket fours."

And "Chompy raises with 9 3 off"

He was shocked I didn't call as he was fairly loose. But I was up against 2 players.  " I would have called me, with AK" is what he said!  Being results orientated, it would have been a chop anyway so not much value lost!

Not from memory!  Not that good! Typed it all into messages/reminders on my mobile phone.  Managed fine until level 17 when  6 handed play was too fast for me to keep up with the notes whilst I needed to focus.

I'm sure I had a fairly tight image (but most wouldn't have known how few hands I played on day one) and I guess he didn't want to race for a large part of his stack. I don't recall how much he had but he covered me.  I still thought his fold was terrible and I was very relieved when I saw what he folded. A tight image is useful in these spots. I think that's how I got my ace ten squeeze through too.

Really smiled to myself when the next chap confirmed he was right to go with his read!

personally i like the challenge of poker as a mental excercise. Try airing your thoughts on 2+2 without a solid background in poker theory, its an explosion. I guess to an outsider it might come across sometimes as arrogant or haughty when i give my thoughts on a hand, its not meant to be. Im anything but, i think im decidely mediocre. I think you have a much more solid live game than the majority of players that post on the pha board, but it is there to debate and discuss hands afterall. I for one am grateful of your input into hand analysis, you always add another perspective, which is what it needs (even if i dont aggree with a particular example its interesting how opponents think).

Look at  recent threads i made, i get pretty purile comments from people i barely know. I only ever post hands on there that are wacky or odd just to stimulate debate when there is a lack of activity, but i think ill stop soon, i rarely get a lot out for the time put in. IMO dont bother biting, although continual 1-liner negative flippant remarks all over this forum does piss me off, i love the forum and take the good with the bad.

Nice trip report Lucky, "every bluff revealed" coming soon?

Im gonna donate tonight if any of you mugs want to send me to the rail.

GUKP Luton continued

Level 15 (2,000/4,000 and 300 ante) - a great session for me !!

· Win a small pot as SB vs BB when my king high meets a king high flop which I bet and he folds

· Open raise with pocket two's to win the blinds - a bit loose for me but I'm running good!

· Limp with J 10 but fold to a re raise

· And now a key pot. An EP player (Nick Gibson) raises to 11k and I find aces (again!). I raise to 27k and he dwells for an age, asking me how much I have behind (it's 95k). Eventually he calls and we see a flop, which is A 8 5 with two clubs. He checks to me and I decide the clubs mean I should bet. I pause and reflect on the bet size and feel a pot-sized bet may be right. I pause again and he looks strong to me. I try to look weak. After some hesitation I decide an over bet may look weak and I push for the whole 95,000. He snap calls with AK, thinking he's got me! I was pleased to see he didn't have clubs and he was drawing dead. He was visibly shocked to see my aces. They hold and I'm now on around 250,000. Wow!

· Raised with Q 10 s to take the blinds

· Lost my big blind.

· Next hand as SB vs BB, stole with no hand by betting the flop to take the pot

Level 16 (3,000/6,000 and 400 ante)

· Just 21 left now. Average is 144,000; I have 260,000 and whilst I didn't realise at the time, this put me in the top 4 or 5

· Now a controversial hand as a serial raiser raises my BB and I see 5 and decide I have implied odds to call and play fit or fold poker. Flop is K 4 6, which I quite like. I like it more when he checks and gives me a free card. Turn is an ace and its check, check again. The river is , giving me a straight but putting 3 diamonds on the board. He bets 20,000 and I elect to just call rather than raising. This may have been soft. Would others have raised here? What if he re raised back?

He shows K8 for 2 pair and is very critical of my pre flop call when he sees what I have. He had called me a rock a few times. Perhaps he'll see me differently now! Incidentally, I felt he let me get there with the free cards. I chose not to make that point out loud!  Comments on this hand please.

· As BB I call a raise to 15k with pocket sixes, viewing it as a set mining bet. Miss the flop and fold.

· Raise to 18k with KJ but fold to a re raise

· Took blinds with AJ

· EP player raised and I have AK on the button. Chose to play safe and flat call (Cautious, but a mistake possibly? Opinions welcome). The flop is Q 10 x so I have two over cards and a gutshot draw. His bet is fairly modest so with 10 outs to improve, I call. Another queen comes but it's a diamond and I now have a flush draw too but the board is paired so I just call his reasonable turn bet. River blanks and I've missed. He checks, I check behind. He has AQ for trips. I wondered if my AK would have won if I'd re raised pre flop but he says he would have called, so my caution may have saved me from getting into trouble in an inflated pot. What do you think ?

· Raised and took the blinds with pocket tens.

Level 17 (4,000/8,000 and 500 ante)

· Just 18 left now. Average is 170,000; I have dropped to 240,000 but still in good shape and have a top 9 stack.

· Two limpers and I find pocket kings again, raise to 40k and take the pot. EP player (the man from my 5 7 hand), says “good squeeze play”

· Lost a round of blinds

· Called a raise with pocket fives, missed and folded to a flop bet. Shouldn't have played this hand!

· Lost another round of blinds and I'm now down to 220,000 but there are only 13 left and I've laddered up to £2,300. Next increase is to £3,050 at 11.

· Took blinds with AJ

· Took blinds with AQ

· Lost my BB – but we've ended this level now and there are just 12 left.

Level 18 (5,000/10,000 and 500 ante)

· Short handed, its getting hard to write detailed notes on my mobile phone and observe the table / keep up and not slow things down, so I stop recording for this level in detail.

· I recall taking the blinds with pocket sevens

· I also recall facing a raise and seeing pocket eights and deciding not to play.

· With 7 hands to go we have 11 left. We have 6, other table has 5

· With 2 hands to go we still have 11 left – I'm coming back for day 3, but not quite on the final table yet. Feels good but just ever so slightly unsatisfactory.

· Penultimate hand and the other table has an all in and a call. We're down to 10!

· Last hand and EP player opens raises to 35,000. I find AQ and having drifted down by not playing, I'm down to 140,000 and below average for the first time in quite a while. I dwell and seriously consider pushing all in. Eventually I find a fold, deciding I don't want to be final table bubble boy! There is one caller. Original raiser bets out on a jack high flop and is called. Checked turn and river and original raiser shows AJ to take the pot. I'm fairly sure my shove would have got through and won me 50,000 chips. I feel this was a missed opportunity.

· Just as we're standing up, we hear an all in and call from the other table and suddenly we're told we've made the final table. (Asif was the bubble boy). 2 bust outs in the last 2 hands was incredible – and good for me!

· Once our chips are bagged and counted, I find myself the shortest stack of the 9 remaining and I have mixed feelings. I'm really pleased to have achieved a goal but I'm also feeling that I've played too passively in the last hour, aiming to final table, but at the expense of my stack. Still it's a great feeling to have finalled, and having lost track of payouts for a while, I'm reminded that 9th place pays a minimum of £6,100.

Day two Summary

Played 34 hands in 9 hours today (31 yesterday, so fairly consistent!).. Had aces and kings 3 times each, queens once & jacks once – again extremely similar to the day before, and as before all of these held up. Think of that, a top 4 pair 17 times and never once losing. Charmed or what?

That's it, we is all up to date and are now officially three-quarters of the way through the 2009 campaign.
Simon G, Alex and Tom, I've added one onto your tournaments played total for tonight. I'm guessing this is correct?

I had an all-time Luton greats table tonight, as follows:

Seat 1: Big-tournament victor David Tearle
Seat 2: MDD
Seat 3: Lionel
Seat 4: Mohammed Al Fayed
Seat 5: Malcolm
Seat 6: Hamed
Seat 7: Danny The Boring
Seat 8: Danny The Fish
Seat 9: Random dude
Seat 10: Me

Yikes! If they could bottle that table and put it on ebay, it would fetch a fortune.
