no reason they can't get texts sent out like the other grosvenors/G casinos do.

Anyone know what's on at the circus this week?

All the talk of the shortfalls of the G is no different from the reams that were written on the old "G Luton Competitions" thread, a lot by me, in 2005-2008.

No different, and nothing much has changed. Over the course of 2005-2008 I cared enough to peek in and see if I could influence a bit to make the sort of basic improvements everyone is referring to here.

A few points that might help you understand the issues here. My info is slightly out of date because as you know I've tried very hard not to waste my time on it in 2009.

Grosvenor runs its promotion/marketing and website operations centrally. Therefore to get a festival promoted or a website updated, requests have to be made to Head Office. For Non GUKPT events there is not a will in central office, which I assume is budget related, to promote festivals. In terms of the website (all the properties have essentially the same site with different local details on it )yes its a joke but assuming the venue sends the info through in time the fault lies in Head Office and in the procedures/culture that do not de-centralise the operation of a venue website to local management.

I will refrain from criticising Luton too much. We all know where the problem lies at the venue.

However over and above the venue problem the over-riding issue is the corporate culture at Grosvenor and more widely within the owners Rank plc. At the heart of this corporate culture within the casino business anyway is that regulation and legislation within Gambling Acts and from the Gaming commission allows each venue to operate in if not local monopolies, local oligopolies. These barriers to entry (the cost of getting a casino licence, essentially, as Rob Yong found when attacking that oligopoly in Nottingham) create a complacency and lack of customer focus that only a company operating in a market where free competition is not possible can have.

Take away these barriers (tricky given the Gaming Commission's "protection of the punter" role, gambling awareness issues etc, ie licences are not about to be given out like confetti) and Snati could buy a local empty retail shed, resource it and compete on a level playing field.

In the absence of that the casinos are onto a winner. They know their punters are "sick" to varying degrees, that the customer compulsion to enter their doors is strong and once inside they will spend money. They know the customer will keep coming back no matter how much they complain about the service they receive. They can make what appear to be daft decisions to you and me (launch a G Casino online brand when they own Blue Square?) and know that the natural dynamics of a protected casino business will allow them to make modest but positive margins.

Within the organisation there are talented people, genuine innovation such as the GUKPT, but the corporate culture swamps that and limits the scope for genuine improvements in customer-facing performance.

This year Rank shares have risen 32%, but have fallen by over 75% over the last five years.

Note that for the forthcoming Pokerstars UKIPT some of the host venues are Grosvenor Casinos     ....       I wonder if they've invited the cuckoo into their nest?

I asked earlier, but no reply so guessing answer is no. I'll have a scout and post here if I find out.

voila:

2nd Dec  £20 No Limit Holdem 1 x Optional £10 Rebuy 3000 chips, 1 x £5 Addon 3000 chips- 3000 Starting chips Winner Guaranteed £400 minimum with 21 players

guessing it's self deal. Think i'll stay in.

No poker for me tonight - its our company Christmas dinner (on 2nd December!!).

I was hoping to play at The G on Friday & Saturday. In light of all the above comments, what numbers should we expect for those tourneys?  (I'm wondering if  a trip to Nottingham could be more rewarding).

Dear Mr sicilian

If you are venturing to Nottingham, please ensure you wear a sparkly top ... you have as much variety in your wardrobe as Simon Cowell ffs Wink
