GUKPT Rankings Race Goes to the Wire

The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour awards £50,000 in prizes to the top performing players. Players receive ranking points for making the final table of all main events and side events on the tour and for the Grosvenor Casinos National Poker League. The first prize is £20,000 plus the title of GUKPT Player of the Year. Going into the Grand Final festival, the top players on the leaderboard were:

1st - Martin Silke - 329.5 pts

2nd - David Johnson - 302 pts

3rd - John Miller - 258.5 pts

4th - Robert Topp - 244 pts

5th - Steven Vigor - 244 pts

6th - Sunny Chattha - 242 pts

7th - Richard Gryko - 230 pts

8th - Jeff Kimber - 228 pts

However, with wins in the £300 NL Hold'em Freezeout and the £500 PL Omaha Freezeout at the Grand Final festival, Karl Mahrenholz has moved up from 168 to 303 pts. Richard Gryko, who won the £1,000 NL Hold'em Freezeout has also moved up the table to 305 pts. The current standings are:

1st - Martin Silke - 329.5 pts

2nd - Richard Gryko - 305 pts

3rd - Karl Mahrenholz - 303 pts

4th - David Johnson - 302 pts

Heads Up For the Title?

However, both Martin Silke and Richard Gryko have also been playing in the £5,000 GUKPT UK Heads Up Championship this week and both have made it to the final. Silke, who defeated Victoria Coren in an 8-hour first round match claimed his place in the final after beating Tom Bentham in the semi-finals. Gryko defeated World Heads Up Champion Bambos Xanthos in his semi-final match, which lasted just one hand. Both players had flopped two pairs on an A-7-9 board but Gryko's A-7 dominated Xanthos's 9-7. The final between Silke and Gryko takes place at 3pm on Wednesday 25th November at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino.

Only eight players participated in this tournament, but with 125 ranking points awarded to the winner and 100 to the runner up, the heads up final could be decisive in determining the outcome of the GUKPT rankings. If Gryko wins the final, he will be half a point clear of Silke with just a few ranking events left at this week's Grand Final festival and next week's Champion of Champions festival in Luton. If Silke wins he will extend his lead to 49.5 points, but with both players expected to enter all remaining ranking events, it will still be far from over, regardless of who triumphs on Wednesday.

Overstacked

The starting stack for the GUKPT Grand Final (starts on Thursday 26th November) has been increased to 20,000. It has also been decided recently to increase next year's GUKPT main event starting stacks to 15,000. There will be some minor adjustments to the structure - no levels will be removed but the running antes will come in two levels earlier.

brilliant decision imo, obv ME's will now take longer but EPT and WSOP have both changed stacks and clocks this year and now hopefully GUKPT numbers will increase as result, wp raaby

Hi Jonathan really like the idea of a 15k starting stack, excellent suggestion. The antes coming in 2 levels earlier.. does this mean 100/200 with an ante right away?

nice to see the starting stacks increased for next year, will there still be a £1500 London leg next year and if so how many starting chips will this tourney carry?

Hello again Jonathan, do you have the results of the side events that have been played?

I know one result on who the top 3 was think it was the £300 rebuy. 1st Karl "Lerch" Mahrenholz followed by Priyan and Andy Seden in 2nd and 3rd but I have no idea on the other results.

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

The antes do indeed come in at the 100-200 level, but we will monitor how it goes and will make further adjustments if required.

The 1500 event at the Vic will probably also have a 15k stack.

The results from the side events can be found on the gukpt site on the live page.
