You read the recent book about Pablo Escobar? One of the most amazing reads ever imo

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Escobar-Inside-Worlds-Powerful-Criminal/dp/0340951109/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317205208&sr=8-1

Well if he had asked me at any point what had happened I would've said but he hasn't and I'm not persuing it so he can just GTFO now instead.

Anyho...

I watched a couple of interesting documentaries on 4od the other day. One was about Pablo Escobar but was told by his son and his wife, was really interesting, his son basically told how he was ashamed of what his father had done, imagine the rep you'd instantly get tarred with being the son of someone like that. He met up with three of the sons of politicians that his Dad had killed, pretty uncomfortable spot to be in. They other was about John Aspinall, intersting character to say the least. It was mostly about the club he had in Mayfair where only the richest people would be allowed in, talk about degen's, some knocking in there whole net worth the equivalent of £millions today, losing there estate's etc, sicko's. Despite that he was struggling to make money so decided to cheat and use rigged decks, I wonder if tikay ever went there.

Lol, behave! I learned most of my lessons about rigged decks & scammers the hard way (ignoring good advice from very old people, mainly) by playing @ Gala Notts back in the day.

Hi Ray...hope you are well ( other than the poker results  Sad   )

Just been reading your thread with interest, and to me Its pretty obvious your head is in the wrong place at the moment (swearing and expecting defeat are just a few tell tale signs)

As you know poker is very much a confidence game and bad beats and a series of negative results  do nothing to boost morale !

Bad runs/downswings happen to ALL poker players, its ones ability to handle these situations that can make the difference.

Sometimes you have to take a step back from poker..re evaluate your position, take a break /holiday and then come back refreshed, maybe drop levels, try a different form of the game.Playing only tournaments can help as it slows the pace of your game down !!...ANYTHING TO CHANGE YOUR CURRENT ROUTINE ! .

Get your head back to been in control so you are able to make rational decisions and not let bad beats affect you as much.

Easier to play with a good karma than fighting bad demons

Hope you don't mind me advising and you manage to turn things around    Smiley

All the best

Fraser

PS      tip.. try to stop swearing in both your poker and every day life  ..you will be surprised by the change in your mindset !

"was planning on getting back to reading"

I hope you do, Ray, it helps to give better balance to our life when we spend so much time around the Online poker world, where reality does not always seem to exist, & where bizarre things are said & done which in the real world would never be tolerated, but barely raise an eyebrow Online. And yet, paradoxically, the real world is an extraordinary place, where THE most amazing things happen, & some amazing characters exist.

I'm reading a book right now called "The Biggest Trade Ever", & for "trade", it really means "bet". Some geezer - John Paulson - staked his entire life, career, job, everything, by defying the experts just before the so-called subprime mortgage crisis &, in effect, betting the bank (really, he bet the bank!) that those mortgages would all go south, & that Lehman Brothers would do the unthinkable & go busto. He was roundly mocked by one & all of his (self-interested) peers, but stood his ground, & what character & bravery he needed to do that.

The bet/trade came in, & he won........$15 billion. Now THAT is a bet!

You wont be able to put it down, a few highlights

Building his own luxury prison with escape routes and inviting the brazil football team to play the inmates
Having to right off 10% of his money every year because it got damp, he had that much they had it hidden everywhere
What he did for the local people in a good way, and the way they helped him towards the end
His mothers involvement with the other gangs leaders

The prison and some of the charitable stuff he did got a mention. The son said that he realised his dad's lifestyle wasn't one he wanted to follow in when they where hiding out in a mansion, they couldn't leave the house and had ran out of food, there was money everywhere but they couldn't spend any of it, they used it to get a fire going to keep warm.

I think some people over exaggerate the use of bad language tbh. I do swear a lot but I never swear at work for instance whereas a lot of people I work with are always swearing in the canteen or in the office even, which is a little inappropirate imo. I feel like I handle downswings alright, I went busto at 45mans and came back stronger so it's not like I can't deal with it and from the amount of hands I put in last year I have a pretty good understanding of variance. As I mentioned after that post you quoted I am currently having a break because I felt myself that my mindset wasn't right due to my overall morale.

I dont mind the advice at all, I appreciate you taking the time to post, for sure I will turn things around, thanks. How you been doing, still crushing the live arena ?

Nice to see his self belief getting paid off. I used to read every night when I'd go to bed until I'd fall asleep, mostly autobiographies by footballers but better than not reading at all. The best one I've ever read has to be Gazza's, read it numerous times. I enjoyed most of the ones I read, think the only one I remember that I really didn't like was Frankie Dettori's: Frankie, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Not been playing much recently as had family/work commitments etc but hoping to resume playing the circuit more in the next few months .

The swearing reference isnt a critisism (as I can swear too much too ) I just find by not doing or keeping it to a minimum I feel more in control of my actions...strange as it seems but but it has helped me tremendously and I feel a lot more relaxed and as a consequence.

Anyway regardless ...Im sure you will come good again

Bought 3 books off Amazon, Stu's recommendation plus Derren Brown's Tricks of the mind and Gypsy Boy by Mikey Walsh as recommended in the book thread. I was going to get Paul Merson's as well but it was only available in hardback and I only like paperbacks, much easier to read in bed, getting delivered tmoro, now just to decide which one to read first.
