Its a bit akin to plain clothes coppers setting up a sting where the put something of value in a parked car waiting for someone to break in and nick said goods.
Both entrapment but both
still criminal acts
and this is kinda my point really. You are right they are both criminal acts, its just the police spend a whole lot of time, effort and resource trying to catch one, and not alot on the other! Similarly the punishments are rediculously skewed as well. Why, because the guy driving the nice car can afford a hefty fine and is highly unlikley not to pay or to even argue. The theif will pretty much have no retribution, and even if he didnt, he probably couldnt pay a fine nor care less about his actions!
This country is going to the wall and the above is a pretty good reason as to why
do you read the daily mail ? serious question btw...

i wonder if he was giving you a chance to slow down by pulling in front of you. i wonder if unmarked police only stop people going very fast, otherwise they'd be having to stop everyone in the outside lane.
i think the 70mph limit is too slow for modern cars but i don't see how anyone else is to blame here?
boshi are you talking about unmarked cars like OP?
I wasn't really talking about unmarked cars, but definitely have their place and can be especially useful at catching dangerous drivers (dangerously undertaking, tailgating, driving erratically, etc.) whereas cameras can only catch people breaking the speed limit.
I think it's great that we have traffic officers stopping to help people who've broken down, instead of tying up the police unnecessarily. Saying that, when I broke down on the M1 recently (the terminal on my alternator snapped off and by battery died completely) a police car was the first to pass me, and they stopped to see if I was OK and had called the breakdown services. Once they'd established I was OK they were off on their way again.

I remember I got stopped 1 morning doing 56 in a 30 zone on my bike ,the cops said we could hear you coming i said well you would i was only in 2ND gear!
went to court gave a load of old bolllox about a van trying to push me off the road hence the fast get away and they swallowed it
wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
but whenever i was above the speed limit and someone crept up on me I'd always slow down and let them pass as when yr on a bike you never can tell whats behind,
and Never ever speed past motorway or A road bridges/junctions they are a mare for setting up on the exit sides!!

I got caught by the same trick but a Golf GTI was behind me and a marked car slowed everyone down then pulled off the first junction.
I paid the fine, took the pts and got on with my life.

Good to hear the Police are employing these kind of tactics, personally I would increase this approach to policing our roads along with substantially increasing the penalties for all road traffic offences. The more people getting done in this manner the safer the roads will be for everyone, and I do not just mean for speeding but any form of dangerous driving even within the speed limits. Let's hope if we ever get a new government formed they get more unmarked traffic cars and bikes out there.
Despite the original poster seeming to have some history with the traffic police I'm sure he is most likely a very good, safe, and sensible driver who is just very unlucky or the victim of some money making conspiracy. In my 20 years of driving my only experiences of traffic policemen have been positive ones and a lot of the opinions expressed on this thread are a sad reflection on their posters IMHO.
