Just a question because I'm curious.

Are there any circumstances by which a football referee can award a goal to a team by means of a ruling, like the penalty try in rugby union?

none!

Tell that to the ref in the '66 final. Smiley
I jest of course, I know what you mean.

So what is Camel asking for. Does he want a hefty fine or a multiple game ban imposed on Suarez? Or does he want the rules of the game changed? The ref couldn't have done anything differently about it in game.

I think he wants FIFA to introduce some equivalent of the penalty try in football.

Yes, I think the rules should be changed to give goals for situations like this. I don't think a team should benefit beciuse one of their players cheated.

If a foul is committed that stops a goal being scored (not a clear goalscoring opportunity) the goal should be given.

But then who decides wether it is a clear goalscoring opportunity and the goal should be awarded - will just open up more grey areas in the game!

FWIW my opinion is that Suarez did what any other player would have done in that instance, not forgetting that it was instinct anyway and was nothing like Henry's handball in any way.

I don't think it is a grey area at all.

Either handball on the line or a foul like Lehman committed in the Euro Cup final v Barca should just be a goal.

Football wouldn't be football if we didnt have situations like this, this is why we love the game and why its so incred.

Suarez did what anyone else would have done. A penalty and him missing the next game if they did end up going through is sufficient punishment.

If a guy bottles it from 12 yards, then so be it, Suarez's gamble landed!

If you just start giving out goals for stuff, theres going to be goals being given left right and centre and even more arguments and pressure for the referees.

why do people(English fans especially after Lampards Goal) keep banging on about changing the game to introduce goal line technology then?
