hey tightend, dont worry about me. its interesting to hear what most people are saying. just posts like the one with the ak hand on the cash table that is not neccessary.

stuart, yeah i agree its hard to fold, but perhaps if people fold them once in a while when they think they are beat they will get better, like the guy in that video did.

Didn't mean to offend you fella. Was just a joke!

On a serious note, the speech play just makes you look more confident about your hand. KK vs AA is a cooler, it hurts me to pass that on an AQQ flop multiway, nevermind pre flop!

Good luck in the future.

So last night I venture to play at my local casino in a private game. I'm getting run over a bit (it's an uncapped £0.50/1 game and I sat with around £4344.50 to begin proceedings).

So I'm now sat with £213.50 when I receive after the £2 straddle and I just limp with to disguise my hand and trap someone. I've also limped the past 23 consecutuve hands. My plan goes a little wrong as there are 4 callers behind me to the flop. It comes a jackpot   and SB bets £12. I say to the table 'Fuck this stupid game, I hate poker, let's gamble so I can get out of here' and do a Phil Hellmuth (he's my hero) style shoveling of my chips into the pot trying to look like I have something like the bare ace of spades. Everyone passes quickly and one guy exposes his hand when he folds as  two spades . I'm like wow how can you fold that but also pleased because someone now fold top pair as the way I've played the hand combined with my beautiful speech looks like I have the nut flush draw so with two more spades already gone, I'm gonna be quids in! It gets to the original bettor and he snap calls and quickly tables   . I keep my poker face on and don't table my hand until the turn and river are dealt as I'm supersticious. One guy calls me a 'puffoon' but I think he's just jealous as I'm the one stacking those chips.

Later on in the night I again limped UTG with pocket 8's and mr puffoon guy who was the table shortstack with £144 got his chips in on the 8 5 2. Why did he do this you might ask? Well when the flop came out and I saw I had the absolute nuts I slammed my fist on the table as though I can't hit a flop. I think that affected his decision to move all his chips in with just middle set.

With the coolers and sick beats I was getting, I should have probably gone home with nothing. However, my speech play and acting earnt me almost £1,000.

Just sayin'.

well you guys can take the piss all you like. and be as sarcastic as you like but at the end of the day i got his chips in that hand. perhaps if anyone new him they could get him to come on here and actually tell us that my speechplay didnt make a difference? like someone said, he said you have aces, sigh, and then he still put his chips in the middle, obviously he either is too bad to put his read to use, or my table talk got in his head and he couldnt bare the thought of me showing him a worse hand.

Hi mate.

Just thought I'd post my opinions on this hand that has somehow become the subject of much discussion.

Firstly I wasn't aware of any "speech play" going on. At no point did you speak to me during this hand so there was nothing you said that affected my decision. The read I had that almost got me to pass was based on you talking to someone else and me over hearing.

The talking actually occurred prior to this hand even being dealt. You made one of your first raises and it got through. You said to the guy next to you that "Every time I've limped someone over there raises and I have to fold. I'm sick of it and I'm not limping again". You looked very content that your raise had got through.

The very next hand you proceed to limp under the gun so alarm bells instantly ring for me. When I look down at kings I'm already considering the high possibility that you have a monster hand before I make my 3 bet. Let me say that although AA is included in the range I put you on I'm not discounting AK, QQ and of course the unlikely other KK.

What I'm trying to say is that your speech play if you wish to call it that didn't win you my chips. It almost got me to fold a hand that I literally never pass when I'm on 30 big blinds.

I have spoken to several friends regarding this and told them that if there was ever a time I could've passed KK in this stack situation this was it. If you hadn't been talking to the other guy about never limping again and then instantly limp utg I can assure you that my chips go in without the knowing sigh that you saw from me.

If we had been deeper and you made the same "speech" then immediately limp with 72o and get me to lay down KK and show your bluff I would've thought you were some kind of poker God. The simple fact is that you nearly cost yourself those chips by talking and then playing a hand badly. You only got them because I had the 2nd best hand in poker.

If I'd been on 20k there is a good chance that I find one of my first ever passes with KK. If you show me a bluff I congratulate you and move on to the next hand. I promise you that your "table talk" didn't get in to my head. I had far more to worry about in the competent player to my immediate left who was making my life very difficult and had forced me to alter my game plan.

Given the action that had taken place I had already comitted 4200 of my 9500 total stack. It was costing me 5300 to win a pot of around 16k. If have the second best hand in poker, 3 to 1 on my money and a 5 to 1 chance of binking if you happen to have the only hand in poker that's better than mine. Believe me mate they're going in.

Don't disillusion yourself in to thinking that anything other than the cards we got dealt won you that hand because it simply isn't the case.

Cheers for reading and good luck with your future poker adventures. Hope you stick around here and join in the fun. You seem like a nice guy at the table so would be great if you decide to post more.

I may be propping up the table, but I've already cashed for £70 in this event. During the first level I had a side bet with Stephen Pearce on how many runners it would end up with. I said 650 or more and the bet was £50. At this stage there were 635 registered. Hardly anyone else registered and about 30 mins later we struck another bet at the 640 mark for a further £20. Early in the third and final level for late entries it hit 640, but I was resigned to losing the initial bet. Then, with 15 minutes left the numbers quickly ticked up to 650. Must have been a list given to the cashier by Pokerstars or a miscount at the start. Imagine the look of horror on Stephen's face and my subsequent delight.
