It shouldn't do that very often at all, unless you're really hitting it with some memory/processor-intensive apps.
What version of the OS is it running, and I'm assuming you haven't 'rooted' the phone and applied a modified version of the OS (which actually run far better than the stock OS as they make better use of storage space and processor capacity, etc.).
My Galaxy also does this - it's still on the old Android and I haven't rooted it due to a lack of understanding of what this entails and how to do it.
Any helpful links?

Worth doing some reading about the pros and cons first to decide if rooting and flashing is what you want to do. Some of the android forums are a good place to start.

I knew a bloke that used to do a lot of rooting and flashing. Until he got arrested that is.......

Sup everyone
Just got an Android phone for the first time and quite pleased with it, two app questions:
Whats the best app for watching videos I have downloaded from t'internet
Are there any apps for improving the quality of the video camera? The first impression of the camera on my phone is that it films videos 'a bit choppy'
There are so many apps out there its overwhelming

Google calendar lost all my data. Need a new calendar, preferably one that stores data locally rather than online.

The problem if you use another calendar that is just on your phone - you lose your phone and it's all gone.
Obviously, what's happened to your google calendar is a bugger - and it shouldn't have happened. It shows that even if you have your calendar in two locations (one being your phone, and the other being the 'cloud' in this case google's servers), if something goes wrong with the sync, you can lose both sets of data. There is an option in Google calendar to export your calendar entries, and it looks as though doing that on a regular basis is the answer, and then storing that data on your PC and wherever else as a backup.
Unfortunately, it doesn't help you this time - and I'm sure your confidence in Google calendar is shot as well.

I've never had a problem either, but this has made me rethink my complacency and I'm now in the process of backing up all my gmail (45GB worth in 55,000 emails!) to my hard-drive using Thunderbird.
It's going to take a good few days though
