Heskey suits Rooney? Man U form shows playing as the main striker suits him as well. Drop Gerrard in behind and we have a truly world class attack. Gerrard is technically better than Heskey and is much more prolific in front of goal. Heskey offers zero goal threat and that's just not good enough at world level for a striker. Gerrard might not have the aerial skills, but do we really need to be lumping it up to a big man in these group games? We prob wont persist with 4-4-2 against the better sides anyway, and I don't want to see Gerrard wide left to accomodate Heskey to suit Rooney. Joe Cole left imo. Heskey did a good job vs USA but I want mofo goals from England's main striker. Martin O'Neill knows about football, and he wasn't playing Heskey at club level.

Sky sports showed this week that Rooney is most prolific when next to Heskey. Second most when next to Crouch and third when next to Defoe.

Tactics in the first game were obviously all wrong as Rooney spent more time in midfield than he did in front of goal.

Lol @ the O'Neill statement though...he bought Heskey to play him FFS..not to keep him on the bench.

Sure O'Neill bought Heskey to play him, and he played him 56 times. Heskey scored 7 goals. So O'Neill didn't pick him anymore. I wouldn't play crouch or defoe either cos Rooney is most prolific on his own.

it is a good chance this will go to goal difference in this group. why have a anchor player against algeria? go and attack them! gerrard/lamps in midfield, 2 fast wingers, defoe/rooney.

I havent really heard much about it since,  so can anyone explain what the story was with Milner been took off so early in the last game? Did he pick up a knock? was it tactical? or was it because he picked up a yellow?

I hope it was the first option.

Did you rate Sheringham or Beardsley both had mediocre scoring records but were key components of England sides. Whereas Shearer and Owen were awful up front together yet both were born goalscorers.

I think Sheringham and Beardsley were both much better footballers than Heskey. Didn't rate Alan Smith or Mark Hateley thou.
