im trying to learn and when people do things i dont understand i want to know why so that i can either a- exploit them, or b- immitate them.
those who just focus on themselves will generally not succeed, in poker at least. Although there is a close line, im focusing on his play but its to benefit my own play rather than to call him a muppet or a hero.
in holdem i spend maybe 15 hours a week looking at other players i play against and asking why. Thankfully ive done this for 5 years and know myself rather than having to ask others. But for PLO im lost so have to ask others for help.
Ill probably start playing 5 hours a week of plo and looking at the other guys for more than that.
Yes, I fully appreciate & understand that, but whether we play PLO or NLH, people will always do inexplicable things, for which there is no sensible or rational reason. In PLO8 last night, I managed to get a full stack in (I made the last raise, he called off) & my man turned over this.....

Did you EVER see a worse PLO8 hand to get a full stack in pre with? Try understanding that. You cant. Save your energy.
But folks do these things, don't waste time trying to rationalise or underatand that, there is no logic at all. Some people just like a punt. Now, (by my meagre standards), I lost a lot of money last night playing PLO8, & I self-examined hard afterwards. But I never wasted any time on 10-9-6-4 man, there was no point. Keep calling bud, I'm here all week.
You are right, of course we need an understanding of who who does what, but before we start that process, as a relative newbie (I assume) I think you'd be better served understanding & learning good PLO basics & implementing them. The villains will always do strange & inexplicable things, they just will. Whatever they do, they will not be "
muppets or heroes", there is an ocean between those two things, againat us they are generally slightly better, or slightly worse, they are just opponents, & we want to play better poker than they do.
All I am saying, is in your shoes, I'd work on my own disciplines & strategy before worrying about what others do. Its no good knowing they play sub-optimally if we don'y play well ourselves.
Anyway, good luck with it, it is a truly beautiful game, & personally (don't all shout at once) I believe it is far more thought provoking & complex than the 2 card game. Very relaxing, too.
Enjoy, I'll leave you to it.
