So 19 days into the diary and I have set one goal for 2011 so far
And to be honest, I haven't done much, if at all about finding a new job. I'm at home today, at work they needed someone to come in and do some stuff for one of my colleagues, not sure what. So as there is not enough money in the budget for both of us to be in I was kindly given the day off. Unpaid. Not the first time it has happened, and I'm sure it wont be the last.
Not the end of the world but it just re-inforces the fact that I need to find something new, and start looking NOW!
As an idea Vin, how about using your days off semi constructively by setting some targets for online pokerz, then sitting down and doing it like a job, and that way you'd (presumably) be gaining some dimez too.
You might end up making more on your days off than when you're working!!
Just a thought....
Don't they have to be attainable targets?
Stop sticking in sneaky posts between others when I'm not looking.
But you have a good point

how come i didnt win the comp vinnie? i think you'll find if you look back mine was the first correct answer
Yes but the rules stated that it was gonna be decided by a draw.
You were second out if it's any consolation?
fucking fix, is it because im unpopular round these parts? what method did u use to do the random draw?
1. Who will let me put their name up as "winner" and keep schtum if I send them $1 on Stars?
2. "Draw" them as the winner.
How come you seem to know all the "fiddles" ?

I wasn't really sure whether to talk about this or not, but I suppose at some point I should really talk about my daughter Holly.
A lot of of people on here know the story, but it seems that a few have missed it or have only really known me since then and are unaware.
Today seems an apt day as it was a year ago exactly that she relapsed and we were told that she wasn't gonna be getting better.

Not the worst idea drainyfish except I don't plan to have many days off. Will be having a word if it happens again, then again that may see me having many days off
I have used my day constructively to be fair. Got up at 11ish, smoked some fags, had some tea, made cheese on toast, chatted to chompy on fb, chatted to horneris, pelham boy, greeky, birdforum and girgy on MSN.
I'm like an online socialite today. I'm going to Nando's tonight, which is nice as I haven't been for ages.
Interested in your definition of "ages." E.g. When was the last time? How many times since we did Nandos in Notts ?

Go back to February 5th 2009 and I receive a phone call from Holly's mum saying that the doctors had asked her to go to the surgery with Holly as there were some abnormalities with her 2nd blood test.
3 weeks earlier Holly has a blood test, this was due to the fact that since christmas she was quite lethargic, had slighty gone off her food and was a bit grumpy. That test came back saying that although she was ok, she may be anaemic, so they gave her some iron medicine and sent her on her way.
It wasn't really making an improvement to Holly and by now she was complaining of a pain in her leg. The day before when my mum picked her up from school she was sick and didnt want any dinner. I took her back to her mum's that night and didn't really think any more of it. The next day her mum phoned to say that Holly didn't want to go to school as she was feeling unwell. So the 2nd blood test was done and after a visit to the doctors in the afternoon they refererred her to the QEII in Welwyn Garden City.
Holly's mum phoned to say the docs at the surgery thought it could be Leukemia! So I set off for the QEII, hoping that it wasn't. This may sound strange, but 4 days later I was wishing it was Leukemia...

Sometimes it is good to talk, or write in this case. Holly is often thought of here. xx

After a fairly brief stay at the QEII they decided to transfer Holly to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. She got taken by ambulance accompanied by Kirsty (her step mum), I followed behind in the car and her mum went home to get some stuff for an overnight stay.
They asked Holly a load of questions about how she felt etc. About 10pm that night they came to the conclusion that it was Leukemia. Should be easily treatable, depending on what type it could be easier than you would imagine. But they won't know until they do some tests.
So I left the hospital with hope that although she was ill it wasn't necessary terrible news.
Following the tests and the weekend delay etc they informed us that Holly didn't have Leukemia. She actually something called Neuroblastoma. I had never heard of it. They explained that it can be treated but it is very agressive. It doesn't always get beaten.
Marvellous i thought. So what are the chances of it being cured then? Well, the consulant mumbled a lot, he was understandably very nervous about what he was about to say. I can't imagine what it must be like for him doing a job like that. Not easy that's for sure. Anyway, he eventually came up with a 1 in 10 survival rate! Err, so 10% chance of survival? Yes, he said. Wasn't really what i was expecting to hear.
He went through the treatment plan, how long it would take, when it would start, how Holly would react etc etc.
Holly was totally unaware of all this by the way. It played a lot on my mind whether we should tell her or not, but I couldn't have said anything to her even if I wanted to. So we didn't. She was only 11 and had enough to face. I'm sure she coped better not knowing that she only had a slim chance of surviving.
