Thanks to save n alex for agreeing just a little bit. Just Seen it says save not dave buy can't be bothered to change it. I might put you down but will never ever let you down. I am a nit in poker as well as life but was once a degen and played differently. How many have gone bust with a bigger roll than alex (insert one of frankies smileys with it's hands in the air). so what. Down through the years I have never seen as much jealousy as a losing poker players. Let alex do his thing coz at the end of the day it'd be his call. Takes some big balls to air your laundry like he does and you gotta admire him for it. He had  a good group of guys around him and on here so let's encourage more and be positive. Mates are for life chicks come and go

This diary seems to cycle lol

Think sometimes u have to go through the rough to experience the smooth. Genuinley hope this is not the case but if you bust the posts Woodsey etc may make more sense cos atm it's not really a reality.

Also give online longer mate- it's pretty obv you know what you're doing. Results will come (a wise man once said this to me in PHA)

Lol we all have to help each other out through these times imo.

I am pretty certain that at some point you will go broke.  You are 23 and if you intend to have a life ahead of you as a professional gambler then statistically (starting with a 3k roll) it will probably happen.  maybe not to the degree of literally having no money but you can quite easily reach a point where your bankroll isn't sufficient to provide you with a living wage at a normal winrate.  All of the best professional gamblers have been through it.  Look back at Dubai's post earlier in this thread where he recounted how stupid he has been in the past.  I am 35 and have been a professional gambler for eight of the last ten years in one form or another and have made so many mistakes with bankroll management, life spending and other personal leaks/issues that it I am stuck grinding low limit live poker and sportsbetting to rebuild a roll.  It isn't easy but of all of the professional gamblers I have known only Tony Bloom has never seemed to have any financial or cashflow problems and he isn't really human anyway.

I have rambled on a bit but ultimately I think you will go broke and I think you are smart enough to figure a way through it and make a living out of this if you want it badly enough and you seem to.

I wish poker players would stop relating their entire net worth as a numbers of buy ins  Cheesy

The bottom line is regardless of number of buyins, £3000 is fuck all money in real life. You need a medium/long term plan to get your roll up to a secure figure, there are better and more reliable ways to do it than your current way imo only of course.

I wish you all the best, but I'm pretty certain your going to go broke at some point, in a sick way that is probably a good thing to happen to you to give you a good sharp shock about the realities of pursing 'the dream' and whether its really for you.

Have you considered the % of people that try and achieve this 'dream' and fail? Why do you think you are any different? The chances are you will probably end up like one of the many degens that have been around the Nottingham circuit for a while and are in a constant cycle of bustoness and nipping to make ends meet. Is that really how you want your life to be? What about a nice house, family and kids? That's going to be tough to achieve as a busto poker player isn't it?

I know that all sounds a bit harsh, but I'm just trying to inject a bit of reality into the situation as most on here are encouraging you into this lifestyle. Don't get me wrong I hope you succeed but sometimes the reality of how most players end up just needs to be said.

Thanks for your comments, even though they are very cynical, patronising and downright pessimistic. I am being realistic. Millions of people in this country live off 10-20k a year so im fine with that for now (ive already made £10k in the last 6months), but as I progress over the years I believe I have the potential to move up stakes and earn more.

The people living off £10-20K a year don't run the risk of going busto or having to wager their rent money/food money/holiday money/travel money/girlfriend's pressie money, etc. in order to secure their revenue.  That's the difference.

Fortunately, you're young enough to go busto and have a chance to then decide what to do with your life should it happen.  Also, you have a supportive family who won't let you go homeless if it comes to that.  The combination of a job and playing seriously sounds like the ideal way to build a roll that stops you playing scared and gives you that buffer for the downswongs, imo.

If you worked for 5/6 months and didn't increase your spending limits and still made a little bit from poker, your bankroll could easily get to 5 figures and give you a chance to make alottttttttt more money in the next 6 months.

One thing everyone is saying people in past gone broke etc etc etc, they probably didnt have as many knowledgeable people giving them advice. Alex has alot of clever/experienced people here trying to help and he is a very very clever guy that understands the things which are going on. I'm not saying Dubai/whoever didnt know at the time but surely Alex has a clearer picture.

I don't see how that £3k can be seen as a poker bankroll. Living expenses which you can't afford to lose need to be taken off that first giving you a lower roll to play with.

At this point in time I think a part time job is a good idea as you can have that as your guaranteed living expenses income. Your £3k poker bankroll can then be separate and can grow without having life expenses drained from it.

Just look at some of the figures you've been posting recently talking about hundreds of dollar swings. I don't see how that's sustainable when trying to live off £3k.

I don't see how getting a job would increase my roll at all in fact. Assuming I can't just stroll into a job with a £15-£20 an hour salary then ever hour I spend there and not playing poker I'm gong to be losing money rather than gaining it. 20hours job +20 hours poker<<< 40 hours poker. I can see the insurance aspect as being a massive positive of course, but I don't see how I'm ever going to get anywhere going by doing that. I accept that I may go pokerbroke at some point, but I'm never going to be stupid enough to go so broke that I can't afford the bills or anything. If I'm at the point at which I get close to that, then I'll have to revert to plan B, which will be this "Job" thing.

People are getting way to focused on the figure of £3k, I've grinded for a year with roughly that much and yeah I did go broke once due to ridic overspending and not bothering to play, going broke isn't the end of the world. If your good enough you'll make monies, if not you had fun hopefully, trying to, simples. GLGL Alex.
