Interesting discussion. I think what Lildave says about making sensible social and commercial decisions is very smart and something I need to think about more. I've heard of a book called "Treat your poker like a business"  or something like that, which I should probably read.

Ha the book is by Dusty Schmidt aka Leatherass, discussed itt.

Defo should, I got this downloaded to me by msn, and am half way through, really insightfull reading, and for someone like me, can only help wonders ...

I don't think you did a lot wrong, I see where others are coming from, in terms of being a reg in the game, and becoming a professional winning player, sometimes, you just gotta bite the bullet, I wda just sat with my mates, bought em all jaggerbombs, and had a ball after finishing up on the night! lol - well done anyway, keep it going, you really sound like you are going in the right direction, and I reckon you will make it, as you are very sensible, and disciplined.

Bear in mind that Leatherass is famous for being the ultimate ratholer and is the worst at keeping games going, so maybe his book is not what you need if you want to become a respected reg.

The point of this whole discussion is not what you're "allowed to do"  you're allowed to do anything you like, but the what the best social and commercial decision for Alex for Alex would have been, and that was basically what Mitch was getting at - don't do stuff that will a)piss the customers off, or b)upset the other regs, you wanna live in a world where the fish give you tons of action cos you give them action and they don't mind loosing money to you cos they know they're always gonna have a shot at getting it back, and where the regs all respect you professonially because they know you'll show the same respect back. These are just things that happen in live poker - in the games i grew up playing in leeds if you left with a big win too soon a couple of times, started cheering when you won, moaning when you lost etc then you weren't invited to play again, just those silly unwritten rules that you really have to stick to imo.

Really good post Lil Dave. More and more regs need to understand the importance of keeping fish happy while they're donating you money. Taking money of them and then berating them about how could they make that ridiculous call really annoys me. Also applies to this getting up when you win a massive pot business. You need to make them realise, you simply weren't sitting there to just get their money, and now that you have got the majority of it, you're going to move. You want them them to come back in the future, so make them enjoy it.

It's pretty clearly a different thing to move from 1/2 when winning down to .50/1 than the other way around. Obv when you move to .50/1 cash goes in pocket so there is literally zero chance to get it back.

Doesn't annoy me one bit getting hit and run. I mean if its a fish then it annoys me they've left but no more so just because they just won a hand off me or someone else. They could have just as easily lost it and I just don't get why its bad etiquette to hit and run. That said, it is. So I don't do it because it annoys some people (and also because i can't seem to do the "hit" part very often either!).

At the end of the day it is up to you what you want to do in these situations, but if you choose to go and sit at .50/1, then you have to be prepared to accept that it will annoy some people by the sounds of it (not me fwiw).

People take issue because its simple economics, when you take your winnings and move up the money is still in circulation. However, when you move down part of the money is locked up almost (in capped bi games) so $$$ is taken out of the poker economy.

It's not taken out of the economy when I "book a win". I will still come back the next day with 4 or 5 buyins I'm prepared to donate so people always have the chance to win money off me.

this may very well be the case, but what about those people who work have 1 night off for a night in Notts play some poker for fun and don't get the chance to have a pop at it again?

and when those one-night-a-week people win and go home and spend their winnings on a washing machine or a hoiday, how do the regulars get their chance for a pop at that?

well yeh, but these are not the people generally complaining about this sort of thing. if they play once a week for fun then they'll want to be able to come and go as they please and not bother with the etiquette "rules" that the "pros" follow and they won't expect others to do so either.
