I'm heading off in a couple of hours to Marinilla, which is supposed to be another charming little town with leafy squares, whitewashed churches and a little market.
LOL [ ] Good read.
Unfortunately my guide book bluffed me pretty hard here, I was here less than 15 minutes before getting a bus elsewhere. Horrible, smelly, ugly, not a hotel in site (never a good sign!) so I was off to another recommended little town "Rio Negro". It was 10 minutes away by bus (50p journey) and it's just as bad.
Lively enough, there's loud local music blasting out of a cheap hifi right outside my hotel, but it's not a pleasant place to be. In fact i'd half made up my mind to just go back to Medellin today, but I was tired from the travelling and carting my bags around and I found a hotel just in time which had wifi and was an absolute bowl to stay in (£9).

Nice eh? Bit more like authentic travelling I guess!
Anyway just going to grind in here then sleep and get out of here as soon as the sun rises!

Sigh, internet was fine for the first hour of use so I regged up for a normal session, went really deep in some big stuff, had the lot, then the internet fucked up. Disconnected for like 10minutes, coming back on for half an hour, then off again. 7left in 300euro hiroller and 8left in 100euro freezeout, both with 3k ftw and the internet goes down for 20 minutes, since both are short handed, I just get obliterated and am out of both, cost me at least 2k euros in EV. Really really frustrating

How about heading up north to the Caribbean coastline or Venezuela. The sand and sea is always good for morale.
Do you have an open ticket to return, a set flight or even any flight at all?

I have a set flight for the 30th. I did look at flights to Jamaica because Rastafish said I should go and stay with his family there! But it's a lot harder to get to that it looks on the map!
Not really bothered about beaches tbh, I prefer inland beauty - forests, lakes, mountains etc.

None whatsoever. I was offered coke once by a lady from whom I'd just bought a packet of crisps. She was very polite and it was just a casual throwaway remark like when the waiter says "Do you want any parmesan with that?" sort of thing. Very odd! Needless to say I politely declined.

So not been a great couple of days, last nights sleep was one of the worst in a long long time. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable and there was loud music going on (though no sign of any party anywhere!) all night. Plus was still pretty tilted by the thought of how much money disconnecting cost me.
Anyway, had a good chat with friends from back home, who'd just got home smashed from a night out, so they cheered me up, and I rose at 7am this morning and got a bus straight Medellin.
In a really nice hotel now (£54/night), going to clean up (didn't feel like having a shower in that other place!) and then get on the sunday grind all day. Will explore tomorrow, but feel like I've "done" this place now, and might be at a bit of a loose end. I did meet someone the other day who lives in medellin and they have a piano at their house so will probably meet up with them tomorrow.
Before I arrived in this place, I looked at another hotel, which had a grand piano in the lobby. A little boy was messing about on it, so took that to mean that it was a free-for-all, obviously couldn't wait to get a turn on it and I showed the Colombians ma skills with a bit of Brahms and then some Rachmaninov. Didn't get much reaction to be honest, but oh well! The hotel was full anyway so I after that I just left!
