Lovely weekend in Rome with Hannah. One of my favourite cities I've ever been to I think.

I'm not religious, but there was something very cool about being in the Vatican, even amongst all the tourists, it's very moving and you feel compelled to be completely respectful and silent whilst walking around. I enjoyed the underground rooms beneath st peters basilica, where the tombs of the previous popes lay. There was some cool ancient plain chant being sung and it was very atmospheric.

Other than the vatican we visited the Trevi fountain, villa borghese and had a lovely final meal last night near the Spanish steps. We went for some shopping and happened to stumble on what must've been the most expensive street in the entire city. Gucci, Armani, Prada, all the big guns. It was a seriously balla street, but luckily hannah wasn't interested in any of it! Was a tad ridic though, a bag in the window was priced at 2500euros. Most didn't have prices on so perhaps were even more.

We checked out this morning and got the train to Pisa, and then on a local train to the nearest stop to our villa. We were earlier than planned so I wanted to surprise everyone at the villa. No taxis to be seen however so we were fairly stranded. Walked to the nearest bar and befriended a Norwegian man. Ended up having to ring Dad and he picked us up so spoilt the surprise but oh well.

Lovely being back here, the Tuscan air is so cool and warm and the villa is just as luxurious as I remember. Just played some round-the-table table tennis and volleyball in the pool. Great to see the fam again and it's going to be an awesome few days for sure.

Last time I was in Tuscany, stayed in Lucca, loved the whole ambience of that area and beautiful country all round there. You're a lucky young man to gain all these experiences already

On the train to Notts. Had such an awesome time in Italy and just generally this month. Total poker hours 33 (in a hole but shhhh, still time to get out of that Tongue). It's been a great break. Won the table tennis league whoop, lost in perudo, did lots of poolside relaxing, quality time with Hannah and my bros, nice food etc, went to a jazz concert on the last night- it was amazing. Just being in the villa is great cos its so nice and got a perfect setting - in the middle of the Tuscan mountains - high up so it's not too hot, but plenty of sunshine and a lovely cool breeze. Hannah was awesome - she fits in really well with the family and everyone likes her, and we got on really well. Can't wait for her to be around notts next year (though I think I'll have to make some sacrifaces to make it work (ie less poker Wink))

Flew home yesterday, watched the inbetweeners again with my brothers and Hannah (they hadn't seen it b4) then said bye to Hannah who is off to Newcastle to spend a few weeks with her family before uni starts end of sept.

Itching to play again, but not too much, got a few things I'm looking forward too coming up though.

1) Alea is reopening. Gonna try and help JK and his boss Stef start things up again there, it's so much nicer than gala on every level so if possible gonna help get some big cash games going there on a Monday and tuesday and try and make alea the no2 place in notts and basically crush gala.

2) lots of decent comps coming up. Looking forward to them. Possible trips to Greece and Prague.

3) getting a horsie of my own Smiley always wanted to get into staking and I've found one maybe two ideal runners. Just small, the nightly 50£ comps at DTD/alea, but will be an exciting project.

For now though, I've got 3days to get out of the 1500 hole for the month. Doesn't really mean anything cos I've only played 33hours, but it would be nice not to have a losing month - it just looks bad lol. So might do some mental online lockdown session to try and get out of it lol. Will be depositing on SKY POKER and playing some of the cash tables soon....

Peace and love.

Sky Poker has finally arrived.

How did the cash game go last night, Alex, "elderly gents" who ain't got a clue limping into every hand I guess?*

* PS - Enjoyed the session immensely, I really should try & get up there more often.

Peace & love to you, too. If only there were a little more of that, eh?

Honestly, I thought the craic was immense, & I really enjoyed the session.

Are you totally fucking nuts?

I honestly wish you all the best but I can't help but fear you'll be asking for staking again yourself within a year.

You've just managed to get a roll together to fund your own poker career. You appear to be a winning player. Why the hell would you go staking anyone else?

Sorry if this sounds harsh but it's happened to many others before and I see no reason why it won't happen again.

Please think about this very carefully. It doesn't take long at all for a horse to get in to a £5k hole even at low buy ins.

I know you'll think I'm just trying to belittle you or something like that but believe me, I've staked and been staked and it's not something to be doing unless you have a much more secure bankroll.

Really?

£5k at local freezeouts with 40-80 runners? 5k is 100 buyins of £50, would take 6 months to even play that many tournaments. I wouldn't go that much in the hole anyway, 2k at most. If it doesn't work out 2k out of 40k roll is not exactly a big hit.

So what if he runs at 100% roi over 40 tournaments?

Your % of 2k added to a 40k roll is hardly a big hit either.

I'm not trying to put a downer on this mate I promise. The downside is admittedly fairly minimal but then so is the upside.

If you put a loss limit on it then it's not too bad I suppose but it's not that easy to do. Once you sack them you've done your money and can't get it back.

Just because they've won nothing for 40 tournaments doesn't mean they aren't still a winning player does it? In theory they should eventually get out but by sacking them they obviously can't.

The temptation will always be there to keep them on. Trust me I know because I've done it.

It's all well and good while the money's there but ask pretty much anyone on here who's staked people long term. It can get very heavy very quickly.
